Swedish Golf Federation
The Swedish Golf Federation ( sv, Svenska Golfförbundet, SGF) is the governing body for the sport of golf in Sweden, founded in 1904. The federation is responsible for administering the Rules of Golf, as laid down by The R&A, at the national level. It organizes tournaments, manages the national teams, and promotes the game. As of 2022, the federation organized 448 golf clubs and 505,577 individual members with 536 203 memberships, 74.4% male and 25.6% female. This makes it the third largest sports federation in Sweden in terms of active members, behind association football and athletics in first and second and place. SGF is a member of the European Golf Association (EGA). Thanks to a high national participation rate of almost 5%, SGF is EGA's third largest national member behind England and Germany (661,805 and 640,181 members respectively as of 2016). Halmstad Golf Club
Halmstad Golf Club (Halmstad Golfklubb; Halmstad GK) is a golf club located in Tylösand, Halmstad Municipality in Sweden. It has hosted the 2007 Solheim Cup and the Chrysler Open on the Ladies European Tour and most recently Scandinavian Mixed. History The club was formed in 1930 and the first 18-hole course was approved by the Swedish Golf Federation in 1938, and it hosted its first Swedish Matchplay Championship already in 1939. In 1967, 9 new holes were constructed, which together with the last 9 holes of the old course formed the new North Course. In 1975 the final 9 holes were built, forming the South Course together with the original first 9 holes. Claiming a home among the towering pines and seaside lands of Sweden's golfing playground, the championship North Course is repeatedly ranked as one of the best golf courses in the country. Bokskogen Golf Club
Bokskogen Golf Club (Bokskogens Golfklubb; Bokskogens GK) is a 36-hole golf club located 15 km southeast of Malmö in Skåne County, southern Sweden. It has hosted two tournaments on the European Tour. History The club has two 18-hole courses, the original parkland ''Old Course'' laid out on the shores of Lake Yddingen designed by Anders Amilon, and the ''King's Course'', a heathland course finished in 1990 and designed by Douglas Brasier and Bengt Lorichs. In 2020 ''Svensk Golf'', official publication of the Swedish Golf Federation, ranked the Old Course #37 in Sweden using the ''Golf Digest'' methodology. Successful players that have represented the club include European Tour player Martin Erlandsson and Ryder Cup winner Peter Hanson. Scandinavian Enterprise Open
The Scandinavian Enterprise Open was a golf tournament on the European Tour that was played in Sweden until 1990, when it had a prize fund of £400,000, which was mid-range for the tour at that time. In 1991, the tournament was merged with fellow Sweden-based European Tour event, the PLM Open, with the resultant tournament being called the Scandinavian Masters. Tournament highlights *1973: Bob Charles won the inaugural edition of the tournament; he finished two strokes ahead of Tony Jacklin, Hedley Muscroft, and Vin Baker. *1974: Jacklin won by 11 strokes over José María Cañizares despite a final round 75. *1977: Seve Ballesteros was struck by lightning on the 14th fairway during the second round of play. 2007 Solheim Cup
The 2007 Solheim Cup was the tenth Solheim Cup, held 14–16 September at Halmstad GK in Halmstad, Sweden. It was a three-day contest for professional female golfers, pitting the 12 best players born in the United States against the 12 best players born in Europe. The U.S. team won the competition, 16 to 12, to retain the Solheim Cup. Format The Solheim Cup is a match play event, as opposed to the more common stroke play format. A total of 28 points are available, divided among four periods of team play, followed by one period of singles play. The first period, on Friday morning, consists of four rounds of foursomes. This is followed in the afternoon by four rounds of four-ball. This schedule is repeated on Saturday morning and afternoon. The four periods on Friday and Saturday account for 16 points. 2003 Solheim Cup
The 2003 Solheim Cup was the eighth Solheim Cup, held 12–14 September 2003 at Barsebäck Golf & Country Club in Loddekopinge, Skåne, Sweden. This was the first time the European team hosted outside of the United Kingdom. When Rosie Jones of the U.S. conceded a birdie putt to Catriona Matthew giving her a 3&1 win, Europe reached the 14 points required to win the Solheim Cup for the third time. With the overall competition's outcome decided, amid some controversy, four of the five remaining matches were conceded for a final score of 17 to 10. Royal Drottningholm Golf Club
Royal Drottningholm Golf Club is a golf club located in Drottningholm, Stockholm County in Sweden. It has hosted tournaments both on the European Tour and the Ladies European Tour. History The club was established in 1959 and received a royal charter from king Gustaf VI Adolf the same year. It is situated on the island Lovön in lake Mälaren in the outskirts of Stockholm adjacent to Drottningholm Palace, the residence of the Swedish Royal Family. The course was designed by Rafael Sundblom and his associate Nils Sköld, and the king himself inaugurated the course 26 September 1959. The course was renovated 2010–2012 by Johan Benestam and the remodeled course was inaugurated by Prince Daniel, Duke of Västergötland in June 2012. Ljunghusen Golf Club
Ljunghusen Golf Club is a links golf club located in Höllviken, Skåne County in Sweden. It has hosted the PLM Open on the European Tour. History The club is located on Sweden's southern tip, along the Baltic Sea. Its first six holes were built in 1932 and by 1965 the club was the first in Scandinavia to feature 27 holes. It is one of few links courses in Sweden and is repeatedly ranked one of the best courses in the country. The club has hosted the PLM Open on the European Tour as well as the Telia Grand Prix on the Challenge Tour. Vasatorp Golf Club (Vasatorps Golfklubb; Vasatorps GK) is a 54-hole golfing complex located 9 km east of Helsingborg in Skåne County, southern Sweden. Barsebäck Golf & Country Club is a golf club in Barsebäck, northern part of Metropolitan Malmö in Scania, Sweden. The club is one of the premier golf facilities in Sweden and hosted the 2003 Solheim Cup and the Scandinavian Masters ten times between 1992 and 2017. History The club, overlooking the Öresund strait, was founded in 1969 on the grounds of Barsebäck Castle by count Ian Hamilton and his wife Marianne. It was purchased in 1974 by Gösta Carlsson who developed the facility into one of the top golfing facilities in Sweden.
