This is a list of francophone communities in Alberta. Municipalities with a high percentage of French language, French-speakers in the Canadian province of Alberta are listed. The provincial average of Albertans whose mother tongue is French is 1.5%, with a total of 64,855 people in Alberta who identify French as their mother tongue in 2021. While several communities in these have sizeable French minorities, no municipalities have francophone majorities. The majority of Franco-Albertans resides within the province's two largest cities: Edmonton, and Calgary. A number of small municipalities also have high francophone populations. French Language
French ( or ) is a Romance language of the Indo-European family. It descended from the Vulgar Latin of the Roman Empire, as did all Romance languages. French evolved from Gallo-Romance, the Latin spoken in Gaul, and more specifically in Northern Gaul. Its closest relatives are the other langues d'oïl—languages historically spoken in northern France and in southern Belgium, which French ( Francien) largely supplanted.
