List Of Former State Routes In New York
The modern New York (state), New York state route system was created in 1924 and initially consisted of roughly two dozen routes. As the system has been expanded and refined in the years since, hundreds of routes have been eliminated for several reasons. These reasons range from eliminating numerical duplication with a U.S. Highway or an Interstate Highway in New York to the removal of the highway from the state highway system. Many of the designations listed in the lists below have been reused for unrelated highways located elsewhere in New York. US 4 (NY)
U.S. Route 4 (US 4) is a part of the U.S. Highway System that runs from East Greenbush, New York, to Portsmouth, New Hampshire. In the U.S. state of New York, US 4 extends from an intersection with US 9 and US 20 in East Greenbush to the Vermont state line northeast of Whitehall. While the remainder of US 4 east of New York is an east–west route, US 4 in New York is signed north–south due to the alignment the route takes through the state. The portion of the route between Waterford and Whitehall is part of the Lakes to Locks Passage, an All-American Road. The route runs along the Hudson River from Troy to Hudson Falls and the Champlain Canal from Fort Ann to Whitehall. New York State Route 180 (NY 180) is a north–south state highway in the northwestern part of Jefferson County in the U.S. state of New York. The southern terminus of the route is at NY 3 in the Hounsfield hamlet of Baggs Corner, located west of downtown Watertown. The northern terminus is at NY 12 in the Orleans hamlet of Fishers Landing. New York State Route 351 (NY 351) is a north–south state highway in central Rensselaer County, New York, in the United States. It extends for from an intersection with NY 43 in the Sand Lake hamlet of West Sand Lake to a junction with NY 2 in the Brunswick hamlet of Cropseyville. The portion of NY 351 north of the hamlet of Poestenkill was originally designated as New York State Route 153 in the 1930s. This designation was removed in the 1940s, and the West Sand Lake–Cropseyville roadway became County Route 77 (CR 77) sometime afterward. New York State Route 192 (NY 192) was a long east–west state highway in Franklin County, New York, in the United States. The western terminus of the route was at an intersection with NY 30 in the hamlet of Paul Smiths within the town of Brighton. Its eastern terminus was at a junction with NY 86 near the Adirondack Regional Airport in the town of Harrietstown. In between, NY 192 served the hamlet of Gabriels. NY 192 was assigned as part of the 1930 renumbering of state highways in New York to an alignment extending from Paul Smiths to Bloomingdale. New York State Route 160 (NY 160) is a north–south state highway mostly located within Schenectady County, New York, in the United States. The southern terminus of the route is at an intersection with NY 159 in the Duanesburg hamlet of Mariaville Lake. Its northern terminus is at a junction with NY 5S in the Rotterdam hamlet of Pattersonville. While its termini are both in Schenectady County, it briefly passes into Montgomery County near its midpoint.
