Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group
The Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group (ROFG) was founded in 1972, and started out as a fledgling folk dance company composed of some thirty performers. Leaning on the vast amount of data and artifacts that he has accumulated while doing research over the years, Ramon Obusan thought of starting a dance company that would mirror the traditional culture of the Philippines through dance and music. For over thirty years the ROFG has created a niche in the world of dance as forerunner of Philippine dance performed closest to its original form. The ROFG has been one of the Cultural Center of the Philippines' leading resident companies since 1986 and has presented over a thousand performances in the Philippines and abroad. Duquesne University Tamburitzans
The Tamburitzans (Formerly the Duquesne University Tamburitzans) are the longest-running multicultural song and dance company in the United States. Headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the company's members are full-time students who receive scholarships for their activities. The Tamburitzans are dedicated to perpetuating international cultural heritage through entertaining performance - while awarding scholarships to talented and deserving students attending a Pittsburgh-based school. The Tamburitzans were formed on February 3, 1937 by Dr. A. Lester Pierce, who brought his "Slavonic Tamburitza Orchestra" from St. Edward's University of Austin, Texas to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where the group was well received by the region's diverse ethnic communities. Brigham Young University Folk Dance Ensemble
The Brigham Young University International Folk Dance Ensemble is a Brigham Young University (BYU) performing group that performs folk dances from many parts of the world. They were established as a small performing group in 1959 by Mary Bee Jensen and have grown to include around 180 participants. However, about 30 of the dancers participate in the touring ensemble which has performed in many locations around the world including at the cultural festival held in connection with the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, Korea and at the opening ceremonies in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. American Indian Dance Theatre
American Indian Dance Theatre is a professional performing arts company presenting the dances and songs of Native Americans in the United States and the First Nations of Canada. History The group was founded in 1987 with Hanay Geiogamah as director and Barbara Schwei as producer. Raoul Trujilloserved as choreographer and co-director. The creation of the company resulted from the success of a previous production lead by Geiogamah and Schwei the previous year. The group includes members from many different tribal backgrounds. Their first performance was in Washington, D.C. at Ford's Theater. It made its New York City debut in 1989 in Manhattan's Joyce Theater. Śląsk Song and Dance Ensemble (full name: ''Polish National Song and Dance Ensemble "Śląsk" in memory of Stanisław Hadyna'', in Polish: ''Zespół Pieśni i Tańca "Śląsk" im. Stanisława Hadyny'') is one of the largest Polish folk ensembles. It was founded on 1 July 1953 by Stanisław Hadyna and is named after the Silesia ("Śląsk") region. It is based in Koszęcin. Stanislaw Hadyna, the son of a Silesian teacher, is well known for his collection of folk songs. The world of legends and fantasies, ever-present in the tunes of Silesia, fascinated him from his earliest years and made him decide to form an ensemble which could render the richness and originality of Silesian folklore. To achieve his aim he needed talented and sensitive young people who were as yet unmannered by the stage. Mazowsze (in Polish "Państwowy Zespół Ludowy Pieśni i Tańca "Mazowsze"" – "State Folk Ensemble of Song and Dance 'Mazowsze'") is a famous Polish Folk music, folk dance and song ensemble. It is named after the Mazowsze region of Poland. History Mazowsze was established by a decree issued by the Ministry of Culture and Art on 8 November 1948. The decree ordered Professor Tadeusz Sygietyński to create a folk group that would maintain regional artistic traditions and the traditional folk repertoire of songs and dances of the Masovian countryside. The group was intended to protect this folk tradition from destruction and encapsulate its diversity, beauty and richness. At the beginning Mazowsze's repertoire contained songs and dances from only a few regions of Poland – Opoczno and Kurpie, but it soon extended its range by adopting the traditions of other regions. Pirin Folk Ensemble
The Pirin Folk Ensemble ( bg, Фолклорен ансамбъл „Пирин“, ''Folkloren ansambal „Pirin“'') (also Pirin Folk Song and Dances State Ensemble) is a Bulgarian performance group. It consists of a folk orchestra, a dance troupe, and a women's choir. The ensemble strives to preserve Bulgarian culture by performing traditional music and dance from throughout Bulgaria.
