Dhampir
In Balkans folklore, dhampirs (sometimes spelled ''dhampyres'', ''dhamphirs'', or ''dhampyrs'') are creatures that are the result of a union between a vampire and a mortal human. This union was usually between male vampires and female mortal humans, with stories of female vampires mating with male mortal humans being rare. Etymology The word "dhampir" is an Albanian loanword borrowed from the Slavic original word "vampire". Vladimir Orel points out the similarity between Proto-Albanian *pīja and the Proto-Slavic cognate *pijǫ. Nomenclature The word "dhampir" is associated with Balkan folklore, as described by T. P. Vukanović. In the rest of the region, terms such as Serbian ''vampirović'', ''vampijerović'', ''vampirić'' (thus, Bosnian ''lampijerović'', etc.) literally meaning "vampire's son", are used.Levkievskaja, E.E. ''Saga of the Noble Dead'' (also known as ''The Noble Dead Series'') written by Barb Hendee and J. C. Hendee is a set of chronological books in series, and chronological series in a saga that tells the story of protagonists drawn together in a struggle against the little-known and little believed-in Noble Dead (higher undead such as vampires) that herald the return of a long forgotten age in a fantasy world. It begins with an unlikely trio drawn together as charlatans who use their skills to cheat peasants by the common superstitions concerning the undead. Soon enough they find that not all superstitions are completely false; the bits of truth they hold could lead to something far worse that has been long forgotten. The franchise focuses on Rayne, a dhampir working for the Brimstone Society, a secret fraternity of individuals who works to protect humanity from supernatural threats. Rayne, sometimes called Agent BloodRayne or simply the Dhampir, is a fictional character in the ''BloodRayne'' series of video games. Created by Terminal Reality, she is the series' titular protagonist, appearing in both games and later extended media, such as comic books and films related to the series. In English she is voiced by Laura Bailey in ''BloodRayne'' and ''BloodRayne 2'' and Jessie Seely in '' BloodRayne: Betrayal''; in Japanese she is voiced by Romi Park in ''BloodRayne''. She was portrayed by Kristanna Loken in the first live action film, and by Natassia Malthe for its sequels.
