List Of Endangered Insects
As of July 2017, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) lists 343 endangered insect species. 5.7% of all evaluated insect species are listed as endangered. The IUCN also lists 21 insect subspecies as endangered. No subpopulations of insects have been evaluated by the IUCN. For a species to be considered endangered by the IUCN it must meet certain quantitative criteria which are designed to classify taxa facing "a very high risk of extinction". An even higher risk is faced by ''critically endangered'' species, which meet the quantitative criteria for endangered species. Critically endangered insects are listed separately. There are 538 insect species which are endangered or critically endangered. Additionally 1702 insect species (28% of those evaluated) are listed as ''data deficient'', meaning there is insufficient information for a full assessment of conservation status. As these species typically have small distributions and/or populations, they are intri ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Amphinotus Nymphula
''Amphinotus nymphula'' is an insect species endemic to the Seychelles group of islands. It is a restricted range species with an area of occupancy ranging , bounded by a protected area. The primary habitat of this species is leaf litter and moss on trees in cloud forests. The species is threatened by habitat deterioration and its sensitivity to climate change. Females of the species are more often found close to the invasive plant '' Clidemia hirta'' compared to males. It is hypothesized that the invasive plant species has a negative effect on Tetrigidae as it changes the microclimate A microclimate (or micro-climate) is a local set of atmospheric conditions that differ from those in the surrounding areas, often with a slight difference but sometimes with a substantial one. The term may refer to areas as small as a few squ ... in the habitat by changing the habitat's structure and providing more shade. Tetrigidae
Tetrigidae is an ancient family in the order Orthoptera, which also includes similar families such as crickets, grasshoppers, and their allies. Species within the Tetrigidae are variously called groundhoppers, pygmy grasshoppers,Borror DJ, Tripplehorn CA, Johnson NF (1989) An Introduction to the Study of Insects, 6th edition. Harcourt Brace College Publishers. New York. pg 213 pygmy devils or (mostly historical) "grouse locusts".Imms AD, rev. Richards OW & Davies RG (1970) ''A General Textbook of Entomology'' 9th Ed. Methuen 886 pp. Diagnostic characteristics Tetrigidae are typically less than 20 mm in length and are recognizable by a long pronotum. This pronotum extends over the length of the abdomen, sometimes to the tip of the wings, and ends in a point. In other Orthoptera, the pronotum is short and covers neither the abdomen nor the wings. Tetrigidae are generally cryptic in coloration. Some species have enlarged pronota that mimic leaves, stones or twigs. Other chara ...
