A diplomat (from grc, δίπλωμα; romanized ''diploma'') is a person appointed by a state or an intergovernmental institution such as the United Nations or the European Union to conduct diplomacy with one or more other states or international organizations. Reginald Hoare
Sir Reginald Hervey Hoare KCMG (19 July 1882 – 12 August 1954) was a British diplomat and banker. Early life Hoare was born on 19 July 1882 at Minley Manor in Hampshire. Rex, as he was known, was the fourth son, in a family of four sons and three daughters, of Katharine Patience Georgiana Hervey and Charles Hoare (1844–1898), senior partner of C. Hoare & Co. His maternal grandparents were the former Patience Singleton and Lord Arthur Hervey, the Bishop of Bath and Wells from 1869 to 1894 (who was the fourth son of Frederick Hervey, 1st Marquess of Bristol). Through his father, he was a descendant of King Henry VII. Hoare was educated at Eton College. Derick Ashe
Sir Derick Rosslyn Ashe (20 January 1919 – 4 May 2000) was a British diplomat who served as Ambassador to Romania, Ambassador to Argentina and represented Britain at the United Nations Conference of the Committee on Disarmament. Early career Derick Rosslyn Ashe was born on 20 January 1919 in Guildford, Surrey. His parents were Frederick Allen and Rosalind Ashe. He attended Trinity College, Oxford. During World War II (1939–1945) Ashe served in the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, which he joined on 5 July 1940. He campaigned with this unit in the Netherlands. In May 1947, as a temporary Captain of "the Ox and Bucks", he was made Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau with Swords. Ashe was appointed to the eighth grade of H.M. Sir Denis Seward Laskey (18 January 1916 – 16 October 1987) was British ambassador to Romania and Austria. Career Denis Seward Laskey was educated at Marlborough College and Corpus Christi College, Oxford. He joined the Foreign Office in 1939, served briefly in the British Army 1940–41, then returned to the Foreign Office until the end of the war, when he was posted to Berlin and later to the UK delegation to the United Nations in New York. John Chadwick, (21 May 1920 – 24 November 1998) was an English linguist and classical scholar who was most notable for the decipherment, with Michael Ventris, of Linear B. Early life, education and wartime service John Chadwick was born at 18 Christ Church Road, Mortlake, Surrey, on 21 May 1920, the younger son of Margaret Pamela (''née'' Bray) and Fred Chadwick, civil servant. He was educated at St Paul's School and Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. Chadwick volunteered for the Royal Navy in 1940 after completing the first year of his classics course at Cambridge. At first he served in the Mediterranean as an ordinary seaman aboard the light cruiser HMS Coventry and saw action when his ship was torpedoed by an Italian submarine and dive-bombed. Sir Robin David John Scott Fox (20 June 1910 – 25 January 1985) was a British diplomat and writer. Career David Scott Fox (Scott Fox is a double-barrelled surname) was educated at Eton College and Christ Church, Oxford, before entering the Diplomatic Service in 1934. Dermot MacDermot
Sir Dermot MacDermot (1906–1989), styled Prince of Coolavin, Chief of the Name, head of the MacDermot clan, and a descendant of the Kings of Moylurg. MacDermot attended Stonyhurst College, and went on to Trinity College Dublin, where he was elected a Scholar. Sir Dermot MacDermot had served as British Ambassador to Indonesia (1956–59) and Thailand (1961–65). He succeeded his brother as The MacDermot upon the latter's death in 1979. He wrote an account of the family titled ''"MacDermot of Moylurg: The Story of a Connacht Family"''. The book chronicles the affairs of the Kings of Moylurg and their neighbours over the course of six hundred years. It contains thirty-five family trees concerning MacDermots and their related families, and ten appendices. MacDermot died before seeing the book in print, but it was published shortly after by his sons Niall (who succeeded him as Prince of Coolavin) Hugh and Connor.
