Denis Laskey
Sir Denis Seward Laskey (18 January 1916 – 16 October 1987) was British ambassador to Romania and Austria. Career Denis Seward Laskey was educated at Marlborough College and Corpus Christi College, Oxford. He joined the Foreign Office in 1939, served briefly in the British Army 1940–41, then returned to the Foreign Office until the end of the war, when he was posted to Berlin and later to the UK delegation to the United Nations in New York. He was Principal Private Secretary to the Foreign Secretary (Selwyn Lloyd) 1956–59, Minister (second to the Ambassador) at Rome 1960–64, Permanent Under-Secretary at the Cabinet Office 1964–67, Minister at Bonn 1967–68, Ambassador to Romania 1969–71 and Ambassador to Austria 1972–75. Peter Allix Wilkinson
Sir Peter Allix Wilkinson, (1914–2000) was a British intelligence officer and diplomat. Career Wilkinson served in the Special Operations Executive (SOE) during World War II. He supplied the weapons used by two Czechoslovak agents to assassinate Reinhard Heydrich in 1942. Shortly afterwards, he flew into Bosnia to head SOE's "Clowder" mission, an attempt to find a back door into central Europe through Slovenia and Austria. After the Second World War, he pursued a diplomatic career and ended up as Co-ordinator of Intelligence in the Cabinet Office. Wilkinson was born in India into the old officer class. His father was killed at Ypres in 1915 while Peter was still a child. He was educated at Rugby and Cambridge. Sir Derick Rosslyn Ashe (20 January 1919 – 4 May 2000) was a British diplomat who served as Ambassador to Romania, Ambassador to Argentina and represented Britain at the United Nations Conference of the Committee on Disarmament. Early career Derick Rosslyn Ashe was born on 20 January 1919 in Guildford, Surrey. His parents were Frederick Allen and Rosalind Ashe. He attended Trinity College, Oxford. During World War II (1939–1945) Ashe served in the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, which he joined on 5 July 1940. He campaigned with this unit in the Netherlands. In May 1947, as a temporary Captain of "the Ox and Bucks", he was made Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau with Swords. Ashe was appointed to the eighth grade of H.M. John Chadwick (diplomat)
John Chadwick, (21 May 1920 – 24 November 1998) was an English linguist and classical scholar who was most notable for the decipherment, with Michael Ventris, of Linear B. Early life, education and wartime service John Chadwick was born at 18 Christ Church Road, Mortlake, Surrey, on 21 May 1920, the younger son of Margaret Pamela (''née'' Bray) and Fred Chadwick, civil servant. He was educated at St Paul's School and Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. Chadwick volunteered for the Royal Navy in 1940 after completing the first year of his classics course at Cambridge. At first he served in the Mediterranean as an ordinary seaman aboard the light cruiser HMS Coventry and saw action when his ship was torpedoed by an Italian submarine and dive-bombed. Adrian Christopher Ian Samuel (20 August 1915 – 26 December 2010) was a Royal Air Force pilot, British diplomat, and director of chemical and agrochemical trade associations. Career Ian Samuel was educated at Rugby School and St John's College, Oxford. He joined the Diplomatic Service in 1938 and served brief postings in Beirut, Tunis and Trieste before volunteering for the Royal Air Force in 1940. He served in 206 Squadron of Coastal Command, and was pilot of a Flying Fortress that sank German submarine ''U-169'' in March 1943. After the war Samuel returned to the Diplomatic Service with postings at Ankara, Cairo and Damascus. The principal private secretary to the secretary of state for foreign and Commonwealth affairs is the head of the private office of the foreign minister of the His Majesty's Government, and is located in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Main Building. Patrick Hancock
Sir Patrick Francis Hancock (25 June 1914 – 1 February 1980) was a British diplomat who was ambassador to Israel, Norway and Italy. Career Patrick Francis Hancock was educated at Winchester College and Trinity College, Cambridge. He joined the Diplomatic Service in 1937 and was appointed Third Secretary in the Foreign Office. On 10 January 1940, he was transferred to the British embassy in The Hague, but was recalled on 14 May following the German invasion of the Netherlands. Upon Hancock's return to London, he was seconded to the Ministry of Economic Warfare as Private Secretary to the Minister, Hugh Dalton. According to John Colville's diaries, Hancock found Dalton 'brilliant but unlovable'.
