This is a list of clubs in the 2. Bundesliga, including all clubs and their final placings from 1974–75 to 2022–23. The league is the second-highest football league in Germany and the German football league system. It replaced the Regionalligas as the second division in Germany in 1974. Initially played in a two-division format, north and south, it was merged into a single division in 1981 and has remained at this format ever since with the exception of the 1991–92 season, when the league was briefly split again to accommodate the influx of clubs from the former East Germany. Overview After the introduction of the Bundesliga in 1963 the second division was initially formed by five Regionalligas with a promotion round at the end. Hertha BSC
Hertha, Berliner Sport-Club e. V., commonly known as Hertha BSC (), and sometimes referred to as Hertha Berlin, Hertha BSC Berlin, or simply Hertha, is a German professional football club based in the locality of Westend of the borough of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf of Berlin. Hertha BSC plays in the Bundesliga, the top tier of German football. Hertha BSC was founded in 1892, and was a founding member of the German Football Association in Leipzig in 1900. Erzgebirge Aue
Fußball Club Erzgebirge Aue e.V., commonly known as simply FC Erzgebirge Aue or Erzgebirge Aue (), is a Football in Germany, German football club based in Aue-Bad Schlema, Saxony. The former East German side was a founding member of the 3. Liga in 2008–09, after being relegated from the 2. Bundesliga in 2007–08. The city of Aue-Bad Schlema has a population of about 20,800, making it one of the smallest cities to ever host a club playing at the second highest level of German football. SV Sandhausen
Sportverein Sandhausen 1916 e.V., commonly known as simply SV Sandhausen or Sandhausen, is a German association football club that plays in Sandhausen, immediately to the south of Heidelberg in Baden-Württemberg. The club's greatest success came in 2011–12 when it won the 3. Liga and earned promotion to the 2. Bundesliga for the first time. History After a shaky start financially, the club advanced steadily through the lower leagues until it earned promotion to the ''Bezirksliga Rhein-Saar'' in 1931, but only played for a single season at that level before descending again. Sport- und Schwimmverein Jahn Regensburg e. V., commonly known as SSV Jahn Regensburg, Jahn Regensburg, SSV Jahn or simply Jahn is a German football club based in Regensburg, Bavaria. Sportverein Darmstadt 1898 e.V., commonly known as Darmstadt 98 (), is a German football club based in Darmstadt, Hesse. The club was founded on 22 May 1898 as FC Olympia Darmstadt.
