This article lists some of the aviation accidents and incidents in the Channel Islands from the 1910s to the 2010s. 1910s In May 1917, a French seaplane, operating out of the Saint Peter Port French seaplane base, crashed, killing the pilot officer. 1930s On 29 June 1936, a de Havilland DH.84 Dragon ''Rozel Bay'' overshot Alderney Airport. It was landing with six passengers on board and the pilot, new to the airline, ran out of runway breaking the starboard propeller and damaging the undercarriage as he hit a bank. There were no fatalities and the aircraft flew soon after. On 31 July 1936, a Saro A.19 Cloud amphibian (registration: G-ABXW) "Cloud of Iona" went missing on a flight from Guernsey to Jersey on a stormy evening. All ten occupants died. The investigation concluded that the aircraft was forced to land in the sea due to loss of engine power, and was then swamped by the waves. The Channel Islands ( nrf, Îles d'la Manche; french: îles Anglo-Normandes or ''îles de la Manche'') are an archipelago in the English Channel, off the French coast of Normandy. They include two Crown Dependencies: the Bailiwick of Jersey, which is the largest of the islands; and the Bailiwick of Guernsey, consisting of Guernsey, Alderney, Sark, Herm and some smaller islands. Jersey Airport
Jersey Airport is an international airport located in the parish of Saint Peter, west northwest of Saint Helier in Jersey, in the Channel Islands. History Air service to Jersey before 1937 consisted of biplane airliners and some seaplanes landing on the beach at Saint Aubin's bay. Jersey Airways and Imperial Airways were among those who operated to the island before the Second World War, but conditions were difficult as tides governed timetables. It was also difficult to prevent public members from walking across the landing area, and any aircraft that had mechanical problems had to be dragged up the slipways until the tide receded. La Corbière
La Corbière (Jèrriais: ''La Corbiéthe'') is the extreme south-western point of Jersey in St. Brélade. The name means "a place where crows gather", deriving from the word ''corbîn'' meaning ''crow''. However, seagulls have long since displaced the crows from their coastal nesting sites. The rocks and extreme tidal variation around this stretch of Jersey's coast have been treacherous for navigation and La Corbière has been the scene of many shipwrecks, including that of the mail packet "Express" on 20 September 1859. Monument Sited on the headland overlooking the lighthouse is a monument sculpted by Derek Tristram and erected in April 1997, to commemorate a rescue that took place. The Arado Ar 196 was a shipboard reconnaissance low-wing monoplane aircraft built by the German firm of Arado starting in 1936. The next year it was selected as the winner of a design contest and became the standard aircraft of the ''Kriegsmarine'' (German Navy) throughout World War II. Jethou ( ) is a small island that is part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey in the Channel Islands. It is privately leased from the Crown, and not open to the public. Resembling the top of a wooded knoll it is immediately south of Herm and covers approximately . Crevichon is an islet off the west coast of Herm, immediately to the north of Jethou, in the Channel Islands According to S. K. Kellett-Smith, it means "isle of crabs, crayfish or cranes". Like other names in the region, it is Norman language, Norman in origin. A thousand years ago, the water level was ten feet lower, making these creatures far more abundant there. The Avro Anson is a British twin-engined, multi-role aircraft built by the aircraft manufacturer Avro.
