An airport is an aerodrome with extended facilities, mostly for commercial air transport. Las Américas International Airport ( es, Aeropuerto Internacional Las Américas, or AILA) is an international airport located in Punta Caucedo, near Santo Domingo and Boca Chica in the Dominican Republic. The airport is run by Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (AERODOM), a private corporation based in the Dominican Republic, under a 25-year concession to Build–operate–transfer, build, operate, and transfer (BOT) six of the country's airports. Las Américas usually receives a wide variety of long-, mid-, and short-haul aircraft. Santo Domingo's other airport, La Isabela International Airport, La Isabela, is much smaller and used by light aircraft only. Santo Domingo Este
Santo Domingo Este is a municipality and the provincial capital of the Santo Domingo province in the Dominican Republic. It has one municipal district (''distrito municipal''), San Luis. Santo Domingo Este is across the Ozama River which divides the east and west sections of metropolitan Santo Domingo. This eastern side is more residential and less commercially developed, but it too has experienced growth, though at a slower pace than Santo Domingo itself, with new malls and department stores. La Isabela International Airport
La Isabela International Airport opened in 23 February 2006 to replace Herrera International Airport. The first flight to land at the airport was a Caribair flight from Port-au-Prince, Haiti. It primarily serves the Dominican Republic with domestic flights and some international flights to other Caribbean islands. La Isabela Airport is the major hub for Dominican airlines that operate small aircraft. The airport has the largest number of hangars in the country (+40) for Dominican-based carriers. Distrito Nacional
The Distrito Nacional (; D.N.) is a subdivision of the Dominican Republic enclosing the capital Santo Domingo. It is not in any of the Provinces of the Dominican Republic, provinces, but in practice, it acts as a province on its own. Before October 16, 2001, the Distrito Nacional was much larger, including what is now known as Santo Domingo Province. Published statistics and maps generally show the former, larger, Distrito Nacional. The Distrito Nacional has no rural or underdeveloped areas. Samaná El Catey International Airport , also called Aeropuerto Internacional Presidente Juan Bosch (AISA), is an international airport that opened on 6 November 2006, serving the province of Samaná in the Dominican Republic. The airport is located near the village of El Catey, some west of Sánchez, at the base of the mountainous peninsula Cape Samana. Local travel times are given as 30 minutes drive to Las Terrenas, 40 minutes drive to the provincial capital, Santa Barbara de Samaná, and approximately one hour drive to Las Galeras. Facilities The airport's new runway is 3000 m x 45 m, flexible pavement load-rated PCN 66 F/A/W/T, designed to accommodate a Boeing 747. Samaná () is a Provinces of the Dominican Republic, province of the Dominican Republic in the Samaná Peninsula located in the eastern region. Its Capital (political), capital is Samaná (town), Santa Bárbara de Samaná, usually known as Samaná.
