List Of Air Rage Incidents
This is a list of air rage incidents in commercial air travel that have been covered in the media. Air rage occurs when air travelers or airline personnel act violently, abusively or disruptively towards others in the course of their travel. When these incidents have occurred in flight, they have often required the pilots to divert and make an emergency landing in order to have someone taken off the flight as the safety of those on board cannot be guaranteed otherwise; on the ground they have led to delayed departures. Often they involve unruly passengers but sometimes crew members have been at fault. In the case of the former, the incidents have resulted in criminal charges; unruly crew often face disciplinary action including termination and, in some cases, charges as well. Air Rage
Air rage is aggressive or violent behavior on the part of passengers and crew of aircraft, especially during flight. Air rage generally covers both behavior of a passenger or crew member that is likely caused by physiological or psychological stresses associated with air travel, and when a passenger or crew member becomes unruly, angry, or violent on an aircraft during a flight. Excessive consumption of alcohol is often a cause. Landing to disembark the troublemaker cannot usually be done quickly and causes great delays to passengers. However, unlike large ships, there is insufficient room on board to hold the offender in an isolated area until arrival. Therefore, diversions or unscheduled stops do occur because of air rage. Examples of air rage behavior include failure to follow safety regulations or behaving in a way that gives suspicion of a threat to flight safety.
