List Of WDF Tournaments
The World Darts Federation recognise many darts tournaments each year including major titles such as the Lakeside World Professional Championship and the Winmau World Masters. Through 2007, the WDF had held four majors which constituted the Grand Slam, until the Topic International Darts League and Bavaria World Darts Trophy were cancelled in 2008 following the withdrawal of the Dutch broadcasters SBS 6, when it was announced that PDC players, including Raymond van Barneveld, Jelle Klaasen, and Michael van Gerwen would not be competing. Tournaments Tournaments listed below are recognised by the WDF and ranked accordingly to their point allocation system but are not organised or run by them they are staged by WDF member associations, councils federations and organisations. World Darts Federation
The World Darts Federation (WDF) is a sport governing body and (along with the PDC) a tournament organiser for the game of darts. It was formed in 1974 by representatives of the original fourteen founding members. Membership is open to the national organizing body for darts in all nations. The WDF encourages the promotion of the sport of darts among and between those bodies, in an effort to gain international recognition for darts as a major sport. The WDF is a full member of Global Association of International Sports Federations, which is the governing body for international sports federations. The WDF stages a world championship (called the WDF World Cup), as well as continental championships such as the WDF Americas Cup, the WDF Asia-Pacific Cup and the WDF Europe Cup. The WDF World Darts Championship is a World Championship in darts organised by the World Darts Federation. German Open (darts)
The German Open (known for sponsorship reasons as the Bull's German Open) is a darts tournament that began in 1986. It was abandoned for three years before being recurred in 1990 where it has been held annually. All tournaments was held in Germany at various venues. The first winners of the tournament was Bernd Hebecker from Germany and Mia Mevissen from Netherlands. Tournament was not organized in 2020–2022 due to coronavirus pandemic. Dutch Open (darts)
The Dutch Open is amongst the longest running darts tournaments having started back in 1973. The popularity of darts in the Netherlands since Raymond van Barneveld began amassing world titles has seen the number of entries for the tournament rise dramatically. The 2007 event had 2867 entries in the Men's Singles, 1179 in the Men's Pairs, 418 in the Women's Singles and 176 in the Women's Pairs. Although the tournament is classed an "Open" event, only players eligible to for the Winmau World Masters and BDO World Championship are now allowed to enter. John O'Shea (darts Player)
John O'Shea (born 24 July 1975) is a professional Irish darts player, who plays in the Professional Darts Corporation events. His most notable achievement is winning the 2019 World Masters, the first Irish player to win a major global tournament in many years. Career O' Shea had his biggest career win to date at the controversial 2019 World Masters, one of three Irish players winning titles at the tournament. Unseeded in the draw, he defeated Neil Duff, Mario Vandenbogaerde and Scott Waites in the final stages. In doing so, he became the first Irish player in the modern era to win a major tournament. Circus Tavern
The Circus Tavern is an entertainment venue in Purfleet, Essex, England which hosts functions, cabaret acts and is also a nightclub venue. First opened in 1974, it is most famous as having been a long-time venue of the PDC World Darts Championship. Its capacity is 1100 seated. Purfleet
Purfleet-on-Thames is a town in the Thurrock unitary authority, Essex, England. It is bordered by the A13 road to the north and the River Thames to the south and is within the easternmost part of the M25 motorway but just outside the Greater London boundary. World Masters (darts)
The World Masters is one of the longest-running and most prestigious of the BDO/WDF tournaments, which began in 1974. The tournament is sponsored by darts board manufacturer, Winmau. The World Masters was unusual in darts in that its sets are the best of 3 legs (first to 2) rather than the standard best of 5 legs (first to 3). It was previously the final leg of the BDO's Grand Slam title of televised majors, along with the BDO World Darts Championship, International Darts League and World Darts Trophy, until the latter two tournaments were axed in 2008. The champion is referred to as the World Master. After the collapse of the British Darts Organisation in September 2020, the World Darts Federation announced plans to launch the WDF World Masters.
