University Of Peradeniya
The University of Peradeniya ( si, පේරාදෙණිය විශ්වවිද්යාලය, ta, பேராதனைப் பல்கலைக்கழகம்) is a public university in Sri Lanka, funded by the University Grants Commission. It is the largest university in Sri Lanka, which was originally established as the University of Ceylon in 1942. The university was officially opened on 20 April 1954, in the presence of Queen Elizabeth II, by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Neelan Tiruchelvam
Neelakandan Tiruchelvam, PC ( ta, நீலகண்டன் திருச்செல்வம்; 31 January 1944 – 29 July 1999) was a Sri Lankan Tamil lawyer, academic, human rights activist and politician. He was a Member of Parliament and Director of the International Centre for Ethnic Studies. He advocated for a peaceful resolution to the Sri Lankan Civil War and is considered one of the most influential researchers on constitutional law and constitutional theory in Sri Lanka. On 29 July 1999, Tiruchelvam was assassinated. The militant Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam was widely blamed for the assassination, and the assassination received condemnation from around the world. Jathika Hela Urumaya
The Jathika Hela Urumaya ( si, ජාතික හෙළ උරුමය, ta, ஈழ மக்கள் கழகம், often approximated in English as National Heritage Party) is a nationalist political party in Sri Lanka. The JHU was launched in February 2004 by the lay-based, Sinhala nationalist political party Sihala Urumaya. Founding members include Kolonnawe Sumangala Thero, Uduwe Dhammaloka Thero, Ellawala Medhananda Thero, Omalpe Sobhitha Thero, Athuraliye Rathana Thero and Thilak Karunaratne. Venerable Athuraliye Rathana Thero ( si, අතුරලියේ රතන හිමි: born 5 October 1962), is a Sri Lankan Bhikkhu politician and a member of parliament. He is the only representative from Our Power of People's Party in the current parliament. Personal life He was born on 5 October 1962 in Athuraliya in the Matara District, as Ranjith Welikanda as the youngest in a family with seven siblings. His father Peirishamy Welikanda did gem testing as a profession. His mother Ceciliyana Halgamuwa was a housewife. He got his basic education from Athuraliya Maha Vidyalaya up to grade 8. The Sri Lanka Administrative Service (SLAS) ( Sinhala: ශ්රී ලංකා පරිපාලන සේවය; śrī laṁkā paripālana sēvaya) is the key administrative service of the Government of Sri Lanka, with civil servants working for both in the Central Government as well as in the provincial councils. It was formed as the ''Ceylon Administrative Service'' (CAS) in 1963 as the successor to the Ceylon Civil Service which was abolished on May 1, 1963. It is the senior of the public services. The Left Liberation Front is a far-left electoral coalition in Sri Lanka. It was founded in 1998 as the New Left Front by the Nava Sama Samaja Party, former members of the People's Alliance, and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna. Vikramabahu Karunaratne
Vikramabahu Karunaratne ( si, වික්රමබාහු කරුණාරත්න, translit=Vikramabāhu Karuṇāratna; ta, விக்கிரமபாகு கருணாரத்தின, translit=Vikkiramapāku Karuṇārattiṉa; born 8 March 1943) is a Sri Lankan politician. He was a candidate in the 2010 presidential election. Early life Karunarathne was born on 8 March 1943 in Lunugala in present day south-east Sri Lanka. Both his parents were teachers. He received his primary education at Ananda Shasthralaya, Mathugama before going onto Ananda College, Colombo for his secondary education. Thereafter he went to the University of Ceylon from where he graduated with a first class honours in electrical engineering.
