This is a list of United States senators from Kansas. Kansas was admitted to the Union on January 29, 1861, and its senators belong to Class 2 and Class 3. Kansas's current senators are Republicans Jerry Moran and Roger Marshall. 29 of Kansas's senators have been Republicans, three have been Democrats, and two have been Populists. Kansas last elected a Democratic senator in 1932, and both seats have been occupied by Republicans since 1939, the longest current streak of one party controlling both of a state's Senate seats. Its Class 2 seat has been occupied consecutively by Republicans since 1919, the longest current streak for a single seat in the country. Jerry Moran
Gerald Wesley Moran ( ; born May 29, 1954) is an American lawyer and politician who is the senior United States senator from Kansas, a seat he has held since 2011. A member of the Republican Party, he was chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee for the 113th U.S. Congress, during which he led successful Republican efforts in the 2014 election, producing the first Republican Senate majority since 2006. Previously, he was a member of the United States House of Representatives, representing . Raised in Plainville, Kansas, Moran graduated from the University of Kansas and the University of Kansas School of Law. He worked in private law and was the state special assistant attorney general (1982–85) and deputy attorney of Rooks County (1987–95). He served in the Kansas Senate from 1989 to 1997 and was majority leader for his last two years. Alexander Caldwell
Alexander Caldwell (March 1, 1830May 19, 1917) was a U.S. Senator from Kansas. Early years Born in Drakes Ferry, Pennsylvania, he attended public schools, and in 1847 enlisted as a private to serve in the Mexican–American War. He moved to Columbia, Pennsylvania, in 1848, where he was employed in a bank and subsequently went into business for himself. He then moved to Leavenworth, Kansas, in 1861 and engaged in the transportation of military supplies to the various posts on the plains. He then worked building railroads, especially the Missouri River and Kansas Central Railroad. Politics Caldwell was elected as a Republican to the U.S. Senate and had served just two years, from March 4, 1871, to March 24, 1873, when he resigned in the face of a movement to expel him for bribery and corruption.
