The Dying Days
''The Dying Days'' is an original novel written by Lance Parkin and based on the long-running British science fiction television series ''Doctor Who''. It was last of the New Adventures range to feature the Doctor and the only one of that range to feature Paul McGann's Eighth Doctor. Thereafter the series centred on the character of Bernice Summerfield. ''The Dying Days'' features the classic series monsters, the Ice Warriors and is strongly influenced by ''The War of the Worlds''. The Conservative MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale, Tim Collins, was reported to have read the book in one sitting on the night of the 1997 General Election so that he could claim to have read the whole New Adventures series whilst the Conservatives were in government. (In the event, the postponed novel ''So Vile a Sin'' was finally published later that month, thus frustrating Collins' claim.) ''The Dying Days'' is one of a number of the New Adventures which is hard to obtain and is often seen on au ...

Head Games (novel)
''Head Games'' is an original novel written by Steve Lyons and based on the long-running British science fiction television series ''Doctor Who''. It features the Seventh Doctor, Bernice, Chris, Roz, Mel and Ace. ''Head Games'' is a sequel to Lyons' earlier ''New Adventure'' '' Conundrum'', and again features the Land of Fiction first seen the 1968 serial ''The Mind Robber''. ''Head Games'' continues a theme running through the ''New Adventures'' starting from '' Timewyrm: Revelation'' in which the Doctor becomes Time's Champion, and that previous incarnations still in some sense exist within his mind. This novel suggests that the Seventh Doctor was somehow able to terminate the life of his previous incarnation on Lakertya (in the story ''Time and the Rani'') in order to become Time's Champion. This in turn caused the Sixth Doctor to eventually turn into the Valeyard — the evil version of the Doctor seen in the serial ''The Trial of a Time Lord The twenty-third season of ...

Sergeant Zbrigniev
Sergeant (abbreviated to Sgt. and capitalized when used as a named person's title) is a rank in many uniformed organizations, principally military and policing forces. The alternative spelling, ''serjeant'', is used in The Rifles and other units that draw their heritage from the British light infantry. Its origin is the Latin , 'one who serves', through the French term . The term ''sergeant'' refers to a non-commissioned officer placed above the rank of a corporal, and a police officer immediately below a lieutenant in the US, and below an inspector in the UK. In most armies, the rank of sergeant corresponds to command of a squad (or section). In Commonwealth armies, it is a more senior rank, corresponding roughly to a platoon second-in-command. In the United States Army, sergeant is a more junior rank corresponding to a squad- (12 person) or platoon- (36 person) leader. More senior non-commissioned ranks are often variations on sergeant, for example staff sergeant, gunnery se ...

Nuclear Weapons Delivery
Nuclear weapons delivery is the technology and systems used to place a nuclear weapon at the position of detonation, on or near its target. Several methods have been developed to carry out this task. ''Strategic'' nuclear weapons are used primarily as part of a doctrine of deterrence by threatening large targets, such as cities. Weapons meant for use in limited military maneuvers, such as destroying specific military, communications, or infrastructure targets, are known as ''tactical'' nuclear weapons. In terms of explosive yields, nowadays the former have much larger yield than the latter, even though it is not a rule. The bombs that destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 (with TNT equivalents between 15 and 22 kilotons) were weaker than many of today's tactical weapons, yet they achieved the desired effect when used strategically. Nuclear triad A nuclear triad refers to a strategic nuclear arsenal which consists of three components, traditionally strategic bombers, inter ...
