Fatih Kırtorun (born 1985, Görele, Giresun) is a Turkish poet and translator. Personal life Born in Giresun, Görele, he moved to Istanbul and attended primary and high school in this city. He studied the English Language and Literature. Poetry He published his poem "Yitik Sayfalar Bilmecesi" (Lost Pages' Puzzle) in Varlık in 2006. He wrote a poem devoted to Bilge Karasu named "Öldürsen (G)e(ce)" (Night Tale) in Sözcükler. He took part in the Contemporary Turkish Language Magazine with his poem "Gölgesizlik". Hamit Zübeyir Koşay
Hamit Zübeyir Koşay ( ba, Абдулхәмит Зөбәйер Ҡушай; tt-Cyrl, Абдулхәмит Зөбәер Кушай; 1897 – 1984) was a Turkish archaeologist, ethnographer, writer, and folklore researcher. Biography He was the son of Ubeydullah Efendi who was a scholar of the period and Rizaetdin Fäxretdin (close friend of Musa Carullah) a famous scientist, was his brother-in-law. He was sent to Turkey with the support of Rizaetdin Fäxretdin for his education in 1909. He graduated from Thessalonica Central Secondary School in 1911. At the break of the Balkan War, he returned to Istanbul when he was in Sultaniye. He finished teacher training school in 1916 and became a teacher. After attending courses on ethnography and the Hungarian language at university for the winter semester, he went to Hungary to continue his education where he completed pedagogy. Yaşar Kemal
Yaşar Kemal (born Kemal Sadık Gökçeli; 6 October 1923 – 28 February 2015) was a Turkish writer and human rights activist and one of Turkey's leading writers. He received 38 awards during his lifetime and had been a candidate for the Nobel Prize in Literature on the strength of ''Memed, My Hawk''. An outspoken intellectual, he often did not hesitate to speak about sensitive issues, especially those concerning the oppression of the Kurdish people. He was tried in 1995 under anti-terror laws for an article he wrote for ''Der Spiegel'' highlighting the Turkish Army's destruction of Kurdish villages during the Turkish-Kurdish conflict. He was released but later received a suspended 20-month jail sentence for another article he wrote criticising racism in Turkey, especially against the Kurds. Aziz Nesin
Aziz Nesin (; born Mehmet Nusret, 20 December 1915 – 6 July 1995) was a Turkish writer, humorist and the author of more than 100 books. Born in a time when Turks did not have official surnames, he had to adopt one after the Surname Law of 1934 was passed. Although his family carried the epithet "Topalosmanoğlu", after an ancestor named "Topal Osman", he chose the surname "Nesin". Pseudonyms Generally going by the name "Aziz Nesin", the name "Aziz" was originally his father's nickname, used by Nesin for the pseudonym under which he started publishing. He wrote under more than fifty ''noms de plume'', such as the pseudonym "Vedia Nesin", his first wife's name, which he used for love poems published in the magazine ''Yedigün''. Ömer Seyfettin
Ömer Seyfettin (11 March 1884, Gönen – 6 March 1920, Istanbul), was a Turkish writer from the late-19th to early-20th-century, considered to be one of the greatest modern Turkish authors. His work is much praised for simplifying the Turkish language from the Persian and Arabic words and phrases that were common at the time. Biography Ömer Seyfettin was born in Gönen, a town in Balıkesir Province, in 1884. Son of a military official, he spent his early life travelling around the coast of Marmara Sea. He also began a military career and graduated from the Military Academy (''Harp Okulu'') in 1903. Following he was assigned as a Lieutenant and posted to Western Border units of the Ottoman Empire Army. It was in İzmir where he became familiar with writing. Hasan Ali Toptaş
Hasan Ali Toptaş (born 15 October 1958) is a prominent Turkish novelist and short story writer. His first short story book ''Bir Gülüşün Kimliği'' (The Identity of A Laugh) was published in 1987. An important Turkish scholar, Yıldız Ecevit nicknames him "a postmodern modernist" and calls him "a Kafka in Turkish literature", in her work ''Türk Romanında Postmodernist Açılımlar'' (The Postmodernist Expansion in Turkish Literature). Allegations of sexual misconduct On 8 December 2020, Toptaş was accused of sexual misconduct by a number of users on Twitter. On TRT 2's program ''Karalama Defteri'', which was presented by Doğan Hızlan, Toptaş's opinion of translators were shared and criticized by some scholars.
