''The Crime of Cuenca'' ( es, El crimen de Cuenca, links=no) is a 1980 Spanish drama film directed by Pilar Miró and based on an instance of miscarriage of justice, the Crime of Cuenca, which took place in the early 20th century in the province of Cuenca. ''El crimen de Cuenca'' is the title of a book published at the same time by the author of the movie script, (Lola) Salvador Maldonado, in which she recounts the same facts. Historical facts On 21 August 1910, in the small town of Osa de la Vega, in the province of Cuenca, José María Grimaldos, known as "El Cepa" (the stump), is seen on the road to the nearby village of Tresjuncos and then disappears. His family fears foul play and reports it to the Guardia Civil. In the subsequent judicial investigation the family and others express their suspicions that two men, Gregorio Valero and León Sánchez had killed him for his money. José Luis López Vázquez de la Torre MML (11 March 1922, in Madrid – 2 November 2009, in Madrid) was a Spanish actor. Career José Luis López Vázquez was born in Madrid, Spain, on 11 March 1922. He originally worked in theater as a costume designer, a scenic designer, and as an assistant director to Pío Ballesteros and Enrique Herreros. In 1946, he switched over to film, with a small role in the movie ''María Fernanda la Jerezana''. Originally starring in comic roles, he made the move to drama films in the 1960s, demonstrating his profound aptitude for acting. During his life, he starred in more than 200 movies, filming several full-length films in a year. In 1971, he acted in 11 films. Luis Escobar y Kirkpatrick, 7th Marquess of Marismas del Guadalquivir (5 September 1908 – 16 February 1991), was a Spanish nobleman and actor. He was an actor, playwright, and theatre director who advanced the interests of Teatro María Guerrero, Teatro Español, and Teatro Eslava. A flamboyant aristocrat, he was particularly known to have played ''el marqués de Leguineche'' (the Marquess of Leguineche) in Luis García Berlanga's comedy trilogy: La Escopeta Nacional (1978), Patrimonio Nacional (1981) and Nacional III (1982). In 1950, he directed '' La honradez de la cerradura,'' being nominated at the 1951 Cannes Film Festival. Escobar never married and was openly homosexual, especially after Spanish democracy was restored in 1975. His niece, María Victoria Escobar y Cancho, succeeded him in the Marquessate of Marismas del Guadalquivir at his death in 1991. Luis García-Berlanga Martí (12 June 1921 – 13 November 2010) was a Spain , Spanish film director and screenwriter. Acclaimed as a pioneer of modern Spanish cinema, his films are marked by social satire and acerbic critiques of Spanish culture under the Francoist Spain, Francoist dictatorship. Life and career When he was young, Berlanga decided to study law and then philosophy, but in 1947 he decided to enter the Institute of Cinematographic Investigations and Experiences (Instituto de Investigaciones y Experiencias Cinematográficas) in Madrid. Patrimonio Nacional ( en, National Heritage) is a Spanish autonomous agency, under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of the Presidency, that administers the sites owned by the Spanish State and used by the Monarch and the Spanish Royal Family as residences and for State Ceremonies.
