Dejan Knez (born 18 May 1961 in Trbovlje) is a Slovenian artist, musician, painter and founder and former member of the group Laibach. He is the son of the Slovenian painter Janez Knez. In 1978, he formed the band Salte Morale, which would later evolve into Laibach Laibach () is a Slovenian avant-garde music group associated with the industrial, martial, and neo-classical genres. Formed in the mining town of Trbovlje (at the time in Yugoslavia) in 1980, Laibach represents the musical wing of the Neue Slo ... in 1980. Soon after, Knez formed the side project 300.000 V.K. Today, Knez is working under the pseudonyms Baron Carl von Reichenbach and Der Sturm. He is also a painter, and during the promotion of the 300.000 V.K. "Titan" CD, he exhibited his paintings. Leo Funtek (August 21, 1885 – January 13, 1965) was a Slovenian violinist, conductor and arranger. He is best known for work as a music professor and for his 1922 arrangement of Modest Mussorgsky's piano suite ''Pictures at an Exhibition''. Funtek was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia. He received his musical education at the Leipzig Conservatory (now the Felix Mendelssohn College of Music and Theatre) and Leipzig University. Funtek spent most of his working life in Finland, where he was conductor of the Finnish Opera. He was concertmaster with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra from 1906 to 1909, and then was orchestra director of the Viipuri orchestra from 1909 to 1910. His most prominent role as a practicing musician was as conductor of the Finnish Opera from 1915 to 1959. Dejan Bravničar (October 1, 1937 in Ljubljana, – March 21, 2018) was a Slovenian violinist. His father was the composer Matija Bravničar, and his mother was the ballet dancer and teacher Gizela Bravničar. He studied at the Music School in Ljubljana, as a student in the class of :sl:Fran Stanič. He graduated from the Ljubljana Academy of Music in 1957 under Karel Rupel (1907–1968). From 1957 to 1960 he studied at the Moscow Conservatory in the class of the violinist David Oistrach and then trained at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome for a year under Italian violinist Pina Carmirelli. He began solely as a concert performer and as a soloist has performed with many orchestras under notable conductors, but later he worked as an educator. Božena Angelova (born 1981 Maribor) is a Slovenian violinist. She has recorded for the Slovenian Broadcasting Company and has performed as a soloist with the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra and the Carinthian symphony orchestra, amongst others. Biography She began playing the violin at age of seven, initially taught by her father. After finishing the local music school, she moved to Austria in order to study with Helfried Fister at the Conservatory of Music in Klagenfurt where she obtained her music degree with distinction. Dubravka Tomšič Srebotnjak
Dubravka Tomšič Srebotnjak (born 7 February 1940 in Dubrovnik, Croatia, Kingdom of Yugoslavia) is a Slovenian pianist and music teacher. Early life Tomsic received private lessons at a very young age and continued with education at the Music High School in Ljubljana and later at the Slovene Academy of Music under professor Zora Zarnik. Following the advice of concert pianist Claudio Arrau, she went to the United States at age 12 and in 1957 graduated from Juilliard School of Music in New York. Her teachers were Katherine Bacon and Alexander Uninsky. Arthur Rubinstein heard her New York Town Hall recital and invited her to study with him privately in the late 1950s. Tomšič became one of Rubinstein's protegées. Career Tomsic has been teaching piano at the Slovene Academy of music in Ljubljana since 1967.
