Slovenia ( ; sl, Slovenija ), officially the Republic of Slovenia (Slovene: , abbr.: ''RS''), is a country in Central Europe. Andrej Bajuk
Andrej Bajuk, also known in Spanish as Andrés Bajuk (18 October 1943 – 16 August 2011) was a Slovene politician and economist. He served briefly as Prime Minister of Slovenia in the year 2000, and was Minister of Finance in the centre-right government of Janez Janša between 2004 and 2008. He was the founder and first president of the Christian Democratic party called New Slovenia. Life in exile Bajuk was born in a Slovene intellectual family in Nazi-occupied Ljubljana. His father Bozidar Bajuk was a classical philologist, and his grandfather Marko Bajuk was the principal of the Bežigrad Grammar School, one of the most prestigious secondary schools in Ljubljana. Milko Brezigar
Milko Brezigar (6 October 1886 – 22 April 1958) was a Slovene and Yugoslav liberal economist. Biography Born to a Slovene family the village of Doberdò del Lago ( sl, Doberdob) in the Austrian Littoral (now part of Italy), he attended the State gymnasium in Gorizia. He studied law at the universities of Graz and Vienna, graduating in 1910. In 1911, he started publishing articles on economic policies and economic theory. In 1914, he became the editor of the economic section of the Viennese newspaper ''Reichspost''. During World War I, Brezigar maintained close contacts with the Yugoslav Committee through his friend, the Slovene émigré Bogomil Vošnjak; together with Janko Hacin, Brezigar was among the organizers of a secret network which made espionage on behalf of the Entente against the Austro-Hungarian Empire After the establishment of the State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs in October 1918, he moved to Ljubljana. Janez Drnovšek
Janez Drnovšek (; 17 May 1950 – 23 February 2008) was a Slovenian liberal politician, President of the Presidency of Yugoslavia (1989–1990), Prime Minister of Slovenia (1992–2002, with a short break in 2000) and President of Slovenia (2002–2007). Youth and early career Drnovšek was born in Celje and was raised in the small town of Kisovec in the Municipality of Zagorje ob Savi, where his father Viktor (1925–2005) was the local mine chief and his mother Silva (1921–1976) was a homemaker. Drnovšek graduated from the University of Ljubljana with a degree in economics in 1973. Meanwhile, he worked as an intern at a Le Havre bank. Mitja Gaspari
Mitja Gaspari (born 25 November 1951) is a Slovenian economist, banker, and politician. He served as Minister for Economic Development in the government of Borut Pahor. Early life and education Gaspari was born in Ljubljana. He studied economics at the University of Ljubljana and has graduated in monetary economics from the University of Belgrade Faculty of Economics. Career Career in the public sector Gaspari worked in the National Bank of Yugoslavia, where he became vice-governor in 1988. In September 1991, he became a senior advisor in the World Bank. Between 1992 and 2000, he served as Slovenian Minister of Finance in the governments of Janez Drnovšek. Jože Mencinger
Jože Mencinger (5 March 1941 – 26 August 2022) was a Slovenian lawyer, economist, and politician. Mencinger was born in Jesenice, Slovenia, then part of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. After finishing the study of law at the University of Ljubljana in 1964, he obtained an MA at the University of Belgrade's Law School in 1966. He obtained his PhD at the University of Pennsylvania in 1975. In May 1990, he was appointed Minister of Economy in the first democratically elected Slovenian government. In Lojze Peterle's cabinet, he served as Vice President of the Government for Economic Coordination from 1990 to 1991 (as a member of the Slovenian Social Democratic Union). Janez Potočnik
Janez Potočnik (pronounced ; born 22 March 1958) is a Slovenian politician who served as European Commissioner for Environment from 2009 until 2014. He was formerly Slovenia's Minister for European Affairs. In November 2014, he became co-chair of the International Resource Panel (IRP), a forum of scientists and experts working on natural resources management. Dušan Radonjič
Dušan Radonjič (born 1941) is a Slovenian economist, university professor ( University of Maribor) and member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (class of Social Sciences, Law and Economics). Education and work In Maribor he finished primary and high school; he studied economics at University of Ljubljana and Zagreb. At latter he completed PhD. He is a tenured professor at Faculty of Economics and Business and also at Faculty of Logistics. He was also Dean of the school (1987) and twice Vice-Chancellor of University of Maribor (1996–97 and 2003–07). Anton Rop
Anton Rop (born 27 December 1960) is a Slovenian politician. Currently, he is a vice-president of European Investment Bank. He was Prime Minister of Slovenia, from 2002 to 2004. Until 2005 he was also the president of the Liberal Democratic Party (Liberalna Demokracija Slovenije – LDS), the legal successor of the Slovenian Association of Socialist Youth. On March 20, 2007, he left the party and joined the Social Democrats. Rop was born in Ljubljana. He graduated from the Faculty of Economics in Ljubljana in 1984. Ljubo Sirc
Ljubo Sirc CBE (19 April 1920 – 1 December 2016) was a British- Slovene economist and prominent dissident from Yugoslavia. Life and work Sirc was born in Kranj, then part of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes, in a wealthy and renowned family of Slovene and Yugoslav patriots. His grandfather was a liberal and monarchist politician and mayor of Kranj, and his father was a local entrepreneur. After the Axis invasion of Yugoslavia, Sirc managed to escape to Switzerland, where he established contact with other Yugoslav emigrants. In summer 1944, after the Tito-Šubašić agreement, he joined the Yugoslav Resistance and served in the Yugoslav Army in Dalmatia, Croatia, and Slovenia until 1945.
