Instant Camera
An instant camera is a camera which uses instant film, self-developing film to create a chemically Photographic processing, developed print shortly after taking the picture. Polaroid Corporation pioneered (and Patent, patented) consumer-friendly instant cameras and film, and were followed by various other manufacturers. The base of the technology is from a Hungarian chemist, Rott Andor. His invention, direct positive photography, also known as DTR (Diffusion Transfer Reversal) was patented in 1939. With the DTR process, the photographed surface or object immediately appears as a positive, which is an image corresponding to the dark and light shades of the original. When developing the image, the fixer and the developing material are present at the same time, and they immediately interact. The Polaroid i-Zone is a type of instant film camera manufactured for the Polaroid Corporation by Japanese toy manufacturer Tomy. Introduced in 1999, the i-Zone was the world's best-selling camera in 1999 and 2000. Design This camera took pictures 1.5"x1", that came on a pull-out strip of paper. The strip was decorated and could later be cut to the size of the photo when the image was finished developing. Special film that had an adhesive back for mounting the prints was also available. Unusually, the shutter was not mounted behind the lens, but rather perpendicular to the lens, hovering just above the film. The Polaroid 600 Spice Cam Instant Film Camera is an instant camera made by the Polaroid Corporation in association with British girl group the Spice Girls, as part of Polaroid's 600 series. History In 1997, Polaroid signed a deal with the Spice Girls to develop the Spice Cam, a variation on the company's OneStep instant camera with brighter colours (purple, pink, orange, and silver) and a new design. The association with the pop group was Polaroid's attempt to appeal to a younger demographic, and the camera came with customizable Spice Girls stickers and labels. The Spice Cam was sold in record stores in addition to traditional camera outlets. Polaroid used the Spice Cam to promote its new 'Extreme 600' film format.
