The University of the East ( fil, Pamantasan ng Silangan), also known as UE, is a leading private university located in Manila, Philippines. Founded in 1946, business tycoon Lucio Tan acquired the university in 1990. UE was once labeled as the "largest university in Asia" when its enrollment in the past reached over 65,000 students. The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) granted UE autonomous status and recognized 2 of its programs as Center of Excellence and 1 program as Center of Development. The HiMiG Singers are a choral group from Davao City in the Philippines. History The group was originally formed in 1988 (DCHS Singing Teens) as a secular choir whose founder, musical director & conductor was Mrs. Evangeline Matunog Lapore, DCHS music teacher, a Davao known artist and soprano with a Bachelor of Music Degree majoring in Voice from Silliman University, winner of the NAMCYA in 1968 & DEPED Music Supervisor. In 1987 original members of the DCHNS (Davao City National High School) choral group "singing teens" joined the NAMCYA at the CCP (Cultural Centre of the Philippines) and toured in Baguio City. San Miguel Master Chorale
The San Miguel Master Chorale (SMMC), now non-existent, was the first professional choir in the Philippines. It was composed of an all-Filipino roster ranging from faculty members and honor graduates of music conservatories, alumni of various choirs, choral conductors, composers, arrangers, and soloists. The SMMC, together with the San Miguel Philharmonic Orchestra, was disbanded in January 2007 by the San Miguel Corporation. Beginnings The SMMC was established in 2001 by The San Miguel Foundation for the Performing Arts, an organization owned by the San Miguel Corporation and committed to the enrichment of arts and culture in the Philippines. Since the SMMC is backed by the largest food and beverage company in the Philippines, many singers from other music groups were lured into joining the SMMC. Polytechnic University Of The Philippines Laboratory High School Chorale
The PUPLHS Chorale is one of the major performing musical groups based in the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. PUPLHS Chorale is the resident choir of the PUP Laboratory High School. Started in 2003, it is now part of a larger group, the PUPLHS Music Collective. The PUPLHS Chorale has won numerous accolades and citations, locally and internationally, including diplomas from the 4th Voyage of Songs International Chorale Festival and 1st Vietnam International Choir Festival and Competition. History The Polytechnic University of the Philippines Laboratory High School Chorale was formally established in 2003 by a PNU graduate, Mr. Jonathan A. Jarin. The Mabuhay Singers were a group of singers from the Philippines that was formed in 1958. Some of the members went on to become soloists like Cely Bautista, Raye Lucero, Naning Alba, and the late Rene Evangelista, among many others. The group was formed by the Villar Recording Company as a merged group from two vocal trios, namely Tres Rosas, composed of Carmen Camacho, Nora Hermosa, and Raye Lucero; and the Lovers Trio, composed of Chi Lucerio, Floro San Juan, and Ador Torres. The Las Piñas Boys Choir of Las Piñas, Philippines is a boys' choir made up of scholarship students at the St. Joseph's Academy, and performs regularly in the annual International Bamboo Organ Festival and at the Parish of St. Joseph. History The choir was founded by Belgian missionary, Father Leo Renier, CICM, who was assistant parish priest of St. Joseph's Parish and who believed that the parish's Bamboo Organ could achieve its full glory if there was a good choir to accompany it. In September, 1969, three months after his arrival in the Parish, Renier began recruiting young boys between 8 and 12 years from the parochial as well as public schools in Las Piñas.The choir was initially known as the "Himig Kawayan Boys Choir of Las Piñas".
