The Rehab People of the Year Awards was an annual awards ceremony in Ireland organised by the Rehab Group, televised by RTÉ television. The People of the Year Awards were given to people who "bring joy and light to the lives of others or have supported others in their darkest hours". The nominees were chosen by members of the public. The winners were then chosen by a panel of adjudicators, composed of leading members of the media, voluntary sector and business community. The awards had for many years been held in December of each year. The 2018 edition, awarded for nominations made in 2017, was held in April, having been postponed from February due to ''Beast from the East'' weather event. No ceremony was held in 2019. The Rehab Group is an international not-for-profit organisation providing health and social care, training and education, rehabilitation, employment and commercial services. Operating primarily in Ireland and the United Kingdom, it was originally established in 1949 as the Rehabilitation Institute, and provided training services to people with tuberculosis. In 2014 and 2015, a number of controversies involving the Rehab Group (and several other charities in Ireland) resulted in the resignation of the organisation's then CEO, a reduction in donations to several charities, and changes to the regulation of charities in Ireland. Erris
Erris is a barony in northwestern County Mayo in Ireland consisting of over , much of which is mountainous blanket bog. It has extensive sea coasts along its west and north boundaries. The main towns are Belmullet and Bangor Erris. The name Erris derives from the Irish 'Iar Ros' meaning 'western promontory'. The full name is the Iorrais Domnann, after the Fir Bolg tribe, the Fir Domnann. To its north is the wild Atlantic Ocean and the bays of Broadhaven and Sruth Fada Conn and to its west is Blacksod Bay. Annalise Murphy
Annalise Murphy (born 1 February 1990) is an Irish sailor who won a silver medal in the 2016 Summer Olympics. She competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo 2021, in Laser Radial. Life She is a native of a suburb of Dublin. Her mother Cathy McAleavy, competed as a sailor in the 1988 Summer Olympics. competing in the 470 class at the Olympics in Seoul in 1988. Career Murphy competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Women's Laser Radial class. She won her first four days of sailing at the London Olympics and, on the fifth day, came in 8th and 19th position. On the sixth day of sailing she came 2nd and 10th and slipped down to second, just one point behind the Belgian world number one. Gary O'Donovan
Gary O'Donovan (born 30 December 1992) is an Irish rower. Together with his brother Paul he won the gold medal in the lightweight double sculls at the 2016 European Rowing Championships, silver in the same discipline at the 2016 Summer Olympics, and gold at the 2018 World Rowing Championships. He was the flag bearer for Ireland during the closing ceremony of the 2016 Summer Olympics. Paul O'Donovan (born 19 April 1994) is an Irish lightweight rower. He is an Olympic gold medallist in lightweight double sculls where he set a new world's best time for that event and is a five-time world champion in single and double sculls. O'Donovan first won a world championship in the men's lightweight single sculls at the 2016 World Rowing Championships. Together with his brother Gary, he won silver in the Men's lightweight double sculls at the 2016 Summer Olympics, and gold in the same discipline at the 2018 World Rowing Championships. Buncrana
Buncrana ( ; ) is a town in County Donegal, Ireland. It is beside Lough Swilly on the Inishowen peninsula, northwest of Derry and north of Letterkenny. 2017 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The 2017 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 130th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1887. The championship began on 23 April 2017 and ended on 3 September 2017. The draw for the championship was held on 13 October 2016 and was broadcast live on RTÉ2.
