List Of North Queensland Cowboys Honours
The Australian rugby league team North Queensland Cowboys and individual team members have won a variety of titles and honours since their foundation in 1995. The club has appeared in three grand finals of the National Rugby League premiership, winning in 2015, and has reached the finals ten times. Individual player awards include the Paul Bowman Medal and other honours awarded annually by the club itself and by external bodies, such as the Rugby League World Golden Boot Award which has gone to the Cowboys' Johnathan Thurston three times. 2013 North Queensland Cowboys Season
The 2013 North Queensland Cowboys season was the 19th in the club's history. Coached by Neil Henry and co-captained by Johnathan Thurston and Matthew Scott, they competed in the NRL's 2013 Telstra Premiership. The Cowboys finished the season in 8th place and were knocked out in the first week of the finals by the Cronulla Sharks. Season summary The Cowboys entered the 2013 NRL season with high expectations and without their long time hooker and club legend Aaron Payne, who retired at the end of 2012. The side won their Round 1 game against the Canterbury Bulldogs but would only win five of their next 19 games, leaving them sitting in 15th place after 20 rounds. Tragedy struck the club on 29 April, when talented rookie Alex Elisala died at age 20. John Lomax (rugby League)
John Junior Lomax (born 6 February 1966) is a New Zealand former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. Primarily a , he captained New Zealand and played for the Canberra Raiders, North Queensland Cowboys and Melbourne Storm. Background Born in Wellington, New Zealand, Lomax played his junior rugby league for the Wainuiomata Lions. His younger brother, David, was also a professional rugby league player, who represented New Zealand. Playing career In 1989, Lomax, alongside his three brothers (Arnold, Tony and David), played for Wainuiomata in their Wellington Rugby League Grand Final win over Upper Hutt. The 1998 North Queensland Cowboys season was the 4th in the club's history. Coached by Tim Sheens and captained by John Lomax, they competed in the inaugural season of the newly formed National Rugby League (NRL) competition. Season summary After a disappointing 1997 season, the Cowboys entered the newly unified National Rugby League competition with high hopes. While the squad from a year earlier was kept mostly the same, the club added former Australia and Queensland representative and local favourite Dale Shearer, veteran forward Dale Fritz from the recently folded Perth Reds and former Canberra Raiders flyer Noa Nadruku, who reunited with coach Tim Sheens. Owen Cunningham (born 23 January 1967), nicknamed OJ, is an Australian former rugby league footballer who played in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. A Queensland State of Origin representative forward, he played his club football for the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles (with whom he won the 1996 premiership), North Queensland Cowboys and the Northern Eagles. The 1997 North Queensland Cowboys season was the 3rd in the club's history. Coached by Tim Sheens and captained by Ian Roberts, they competed in the breakaway News Limited-run competition, the Telstra Cup. Season summary After an improved 1996 season, the club pulled off a major coup in signing three-time premiership winning coach Tim Sheens from the Canberra Raiders, who brought five players with him from his old club, including Australia and Queensland representative hooker Steve Walters. Former Australia and New South Wales prop Ian Roberts was brought in as captain as part of a major off-season rebuild in which 20 players were let go, including a number of foundation players. Steve Edmed
Steve Edmed (born 10 February 1968) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1980s and 1990s. Primarily a , he played for the Balmain Tigers, North Queensland Cowboys and Sheffield Eagles. Playing career A Tweed Heads Seagulls junior, Edmed represented the New South Wales under-19 side in 1987, starting at in their 31–18 win over Queensland. He made his first grade debut for the Balmain Tigers in Round 3 of the 1988 NSWRL season. That season, he came off the bench in the Tigers' Grand Final loss to the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs. In 1989, Edmed became a starting prop for the Tigers, playing 18 games, including the club's Grand Final loss to the Canberra Raiders. The 1996 North Queensland Cowboys season was the 2nd in the club's history. Coached by Graham Lowe and captained by Adrian Vowles, they competed in the Optus Cup. Season summary After finishing their debut season in last place, there was nowhere to go but up for the Cowboys in 1996. Under new head coach, former New Zealand, Queensland, Manly and Wigan boss Graham Lowe, the club recruited fairly strongly bringing in first grade regulars Jason Death (from Canberra) and Andrew Dunemann (from Gold Coast), former All Black Shane Howarth and New Zealand representatives Se'e Solomona and Whetu Taewa. Wayne Sing (born 8 January 1968) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played professionally who played in the 1980s and 1990s. Primarily a er, he played for the Balmain Tigers, Eastern Suburbs Roosters, North Queensland Cowboys and Paris Saint-Germain. Playing career A Dubbo junior, Sing represented the New South Wales under-19 side in 1987, before being signed by the Balmain Tigers. In Round 19 of the 1988 NSWRL season, Sing made his first grade debut in Balmain's 16–22 loss to the Western Suburbs Magpies. He did not feature again in first grade for the Tigers until 1991, when he played 13 games. The 1995 North Queensland Cowboys season was the first in the club's history. Coached by Grant Bell and captained by Laurie Spina, they competed in the ARL Premiership. Season summary Two years after being admitted into Australia's premier rugby league competition, the North Queensland Cowboys played their first official premiership game on Saturday, March 11. Lead by inaugural captain and Ingham local Laurie Spina, the club faced the Sydney Bulldogs in front of a crowd of 23,156 at Stockland Stadium. There was no fairy tale beginning for the club, as centre Adrian Vowles was sent off for a high shot six minutes into the match and the Bulldogs won the game 32-16. The 2022 North Queensland Cowboys season was the 28th in the club's history. Coached by Todd Payten and captained by Jason Taumalolo and Chad Townsend, they competed in the NRL's 2022 Telstra Premiership.
