Nintendocore
Nintendocore is a broadly defined style of music that most commonly fuses chiptune and video game music with hardcore punk and/or heavy metal. The genre is sometimes considered a direct subgenre of post-hardcore and a fusion genre between metalcore and chiptune. The genre originated in the early 2000s and peaked around the late 2000s with bands like Horse the Band, An Albatross, The NESkimos and Minibosses pioneering the genre. Characteristics Nintendocore frequently features the use of electric guitars, drum kits, and typical rock instrumentation alongside synthesizers, chiptune, 8-bit sounds, and electronically produced beats. The Depreciation Guild
The Depreciation Guild was an American dream pop and shoegazing band from Brooklyn, New York, United States. The group was formed in 2005 by Kurt Feldman and Adrian Hashizume. Before disbanding, their lineup included Kurt Feldman and Christoph Hochheim (who later became the drummer and touring guitarist, respectively, for indie pop band the Pains of Being Pure at Heart), joined for live performances by Anton Hochheim on percussion and Raphael Radna on bass guitar. Their debut, digital-only EP ''Nautilus'' was released by chiptune label 8bitpeoples in 2006, and their debut album ''In Her Gentle Jaws'' followed as a self-released free download in 2007. Math The Band
Math the Band is an American chiptune-based synthpunk band from Providence, Rhode Island formed in 2001 by Kevin Steinhauser. Originally being a solo project by Steinhauser, the band's style has been sometimes called Nintendocore. The band has performed over 1000 shows throughout the United States, Mexico, Canada, and the United Kingdom, touring with bands, artists and rappers such as Andrew W.K., Japanther, Wheatus, MC Frontalot, Horse the Band MC Chris, Peelander-Z, Anamanaguchi and MC Lars. Karate High School
Karate High School was an American rock band formed in San Francisco, California in 2004 by frontman, multi-instrumentalist and producer Paul McGuire. On March 21, 2006, the band released their debut album, ''Arcade Rock''. Karate High School's second album, ''The League Of Tomorrow'', was released on September 4, 2007, which further honed the band's layered, keyboard-driven style of alternative rock. On November 11, 2008, Karate High School announced that they had signed to Eyeball Records, and would release a new record entitled Invaders on May 19, 2009. In early 2010 Paul McGuire announced that he was done producing music under the name Karate High School and has since chosen to go into other studies. I Fight Dragons is an American chiptune-based Rock music, rock band from Chicago. Their music is a combination of rock with chiptune, featuring electronic sounds made using Nintendo Game Boys and Nintendo Entertainment Systems, a genre also known as Nintendocore. To date they have released four full-length albums: 2011's ''Kaboom! (album), KABOOM!'', which came out on Photo Finish / Atlantic Records, 2014's ''The Near Future (album), The Near Future'', which they self-released after raising over $100,000 on Kickstarter through their "Project Atma" project, 2019's ''Canon Eyes'', and 2021's ''Side Quests: B-Sides and Rarities''. I See Stars are an American electronicore band from Warren, Michigan formed in 2006. The band currently consists of lead vocalist Devin Oliver, guitarist Brent Allen, keyboardist and co-vocalist Andrew Oliver, and bass guitarist Jeff Valentine. Their first album, '' 3-D'' (2009), peaked at No. 176 on the ''Billboard'' 200. Their second album, ''The End of the World Party'', was released on February 22, 2011. The band's third studio album, ''Digital Renegade'', was released on March 13, 2012, which demonstrated a stylistic change, featuring a more aggressive musical style than their prior albums. Horse the Band (stylized as HORSE the band) is an American metalcore band from Lake Forest, California, who are best known for their chiptune, 8-bit video game-influenced sound combined with metalcore. Hella (band)
Hella is an American math rock band from Sacramento, California. The primary members of the band are Spencer Seim on electric guitar and Zach Hill on drums. The band expanded their live band by adding Dan Elkan on vocals, rhythm guitar, sampler and synthesizer and Jonathan Hischke on synth bass guitar for their 2005 tour.
