The list of Newfoundland and Labrador by-elections includes every by-election held in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. By-elections occur whenever there is a vacancy in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly, House of Assembly, although an imminent general election may allow the vacancy to remain until the dissolution of parliament. Starting in 1862 incumbent members were required to recontest their seats upon being appointed to Cabinet. This requirement was temporarily abolished due to World War I in 1917 and was permanently abolished in 1928. Newfoundland And Labrador House Of Assembly
The Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly is the Unicameralism, unicameral deliberative assembly of the General Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It meets in the Confederation Building (Newfoundland and Labrador), Confederation Building in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, St. John's. Bills passed by the assembly are given royal assent by the Monarchy in Newfoundland and Labrador, King of Canada in Right of Newfoundland and Labrador, represented by the Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador. The governing party sits on the left side of the speaker of the House of Assembly as opposed to the traditional right side of the speaker. Carbonear-Harbour Grace is a defunct provincial electoral district for the House of Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. In 2011 there were 9,205 eligible voters living within the district. Being a regional services centre heavily influences the district's economy. Communities include: Carbonear, Harbour Grace, Bristol's Hope, Bryant's Cove, Freshwater, Harbour Grace South, Riverhead, Spaniard's Bay, Tilton Upper Island Cove, and Victoria. Kathy Dunderdale
Kathleen Mary Margaret "Kathy" Dunderdale (née Warren; born February 1952) is a politician and former MHA who served as the tenth premier of Newfoundland and Labrador from December 3, 2010, to January 24, 2014. Dunderdale was born and raised in Burin; before entering politics she worked in the fields of community development, communications, fisheries and social work. Her first foray into politics was as a member of the Burin town council, where she served as deputy mayor. She was also a Progressive Conservative Party (PC) candidate in the 1993 general election and served as President of the PC Party. Virginia Waters is a defunct provincial electoral district for the House of Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The district was represented by former premier Kathy Dunderdale. A residential district in the northeast end of St. John's, the area included Airport Heights, Wedgewood Park, residential areas off Newfoundland Drive, as well as a fairly wealthy enclave near Virginia Lake. The district was created in 1995 from parts of the districts of Pleasantville, St. John's East Extern and Mount Scio Road-Bell Island. Virginia Waters retained 80 per cent of its original territory in the 2007 redistribution, while taking in 14 per cent of Cape St. Francis. Conception Bay South is a provincial electoral district for the House of Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. As of 2011 there are 9,938 eligible voters living within the district. Composed of part of the town of Conception Bay South. A mix of rural and suburban populations, especially as the town of Conception Bay South grows.
