Giallo (1933 Film)
''Giallo'' is a 1933 Italian comedy thriller film directed by Mario Camerini and starring Assia Noris, Sandro Ruffini and Elio Steiner. It is based on the 1928 play '' The Man Who Changed His Name'' by Edgar Wallace in which a young wife begins to fear that her husband may in fact be an escaped murderer. It was made to capitalise on the growing popularity in Italy of Giallo, mystery and thriller fiction notable for their yellow covers and melodramatic plots often written by Anglo-American writers. It is also considered an early precursor of the successful Italian Giallo film genre, which boomed after the Second World War.Moliterno p.150 The film's sets were designed by the art director Gastone Medin. Marta Abba (25, June 1900 – 24 June 1988) was an Italian actress, was considered as the muse of the playwright Luigi Pirandello. Life and career Abba was born in Milan, and was the sister of another actress, Cele Abba. At the age of fourteen, Abba tried to enter the Academy of Drama Lovers in Milan (in Italian: Accademia dei Filodrammatici). However, she had to wait a year before getting accepted since she was too young. She attended it during three years, then she was cast by dramatist Sabatino Lopez and she began performing together with the acting company headed by Enrico Reinach in Milan. After their meeting in 1925 and until his death in 1936, Marta Abba was the stimulus to the playwright Luigi Pirandello's creativity. She was an aspiring young 25-year-old actress when she met the 58-year-old playwright, whose wife had been confined to a mental asylum in 1919. Alessandro Blasetti
Alessandro Blasetti (3 July 1900 – 1 February 1987) was an Italian film director and screenwriter who influenced Italian neorealism with the film ''Quattro passi fra le nuvole''. Blasetti was one of the leading figures in Italian cinema during the Fascist era. He is sometimes known as the "father of Italian cinema" because of his role in reviving the struggling industry in the late 1920s. Early life Blasetti was born in Rome, where he also died. After studying law at university, Blasetti chose to become a journalist and film critic. He worked for several film magazines and led a campaign for national film production, which had largely ceased by this point. In 1919 he made a brief foray into acting when he appeared as an extra in Mario Caserini's ''Tortured Soul''.
