Iran

Jaafar Modarres-Sadeghi
Jaafar Modarres-Sadeghi ( fa, جعفر مدرس صادقی; born May 19, 1954) is an Iranian novelist and editor. Life Modarres-Sadeghi was born in Isfahan and moved to Tehran in 1972. While he was studying in the College of Literature and Foreign Languages in Tehran, he began to work as a journalist in a few dailies and literary magazines, writing reports, reviews and weekly columns. His first short story appeared in a literary monthly, ''Roudaki'', in 1973. His first collection of stories, ''Children Don't Play Anymore'', was published in 1977. His first novel, ''A Play'', was published in 1980. The publication of this first novel coincided with the outbreak of Iran–Iraq War and was neglected by audience and critics. Modarres-Sadeghi's second novel, '' Gavkhooni (The River's End''), published in 1983, was acclaimed as an avant-garde literary masterpiece a few years after its publication. Reza Shirmarz (Persian رضا شیرمرز), is a Greece-based published and awarded playwright, translator, researcher, theatre director and essayist with more than 30 books both written and translated by him, who has been collaborating with major publishing companies, theaters, drama schools, radio channels, journals, etc. in Iran. Reza Shirmarz was elected as a member of the board of directors of Iran's Playwrights Guild for 3 ongoing years. He has also been a professional member of bodies such as Iran's Playwrights Guild, PEN America and Dramatists Guild of America. Reza Baraheni
Reza Baraheni ( fa, رضا براهنی; 13 December 1935 – 25 March 2022) was an Iranian novelist, poet, critic, and political activist. Baraheni lived in Toronto, Canada, where he used to teach at the Centre for Comparative Literature at the University of Toronto. He was the author of more than fifty books of poetry, fiction, literary theory and criticism, written in Persian and English. His works have been translated into a dozen of languages. His book, ''Crowned Cannibals'', is accused by a few of containing some fabrications. Moreover, he translated into Persian works by Shakespeare, Kundera, Mandelstam, Andrić, and Fanon. Parinoush Saniee ( fa, پرینوش صنیعی) is an Iranian novelist. Her novel ''The Book of Fate'' has been translated into 26 languages and the English translation by Sara Khalili was listed by ''World Literature Today'' as one of the "75 notable translations of 2013". Mohammad Mokhtari (writer)
Mohammad Mokhtari ( fa, محمد مختاری ) (April 21, 1942 – December 3, 1998) was an Iranian writer, poet and left-wing activist. He was an active member of the Iranian Writers Association, a group that had been long banned in Iran due to their objection to censorship and encouraged freedom of expression. Due to his activism, he was most likely murdered during the Chain murders of Iran in December 1998. Biography Mohammad Mokhtari was born in Mashhad. He graduated from Ferdowsi University of Mashhad in 1969, majoring in Persian Language and Literature. He married in 1972 and had two sons. In 1973, Mokhtari joined the literary foundation of Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh and soon became a member of its scientific committee. Mohammad Ali Jamalzadeh
Mohammad-Ali Jamālzādeh Esfahani ( fa, محمدعلی جمالزاده اصفهانی; 13 January 1892 in Isfahan, Iran – 8 November 1997 in Geneva, Switzerland) was one of the most prominent writers of Iran in the 20th century, best known for his unique style of humour. In view of his vast influence over Persian short story writing, he is often referred to as the father of this genre in Iran. Mina Assadi
Mina Assadi ( fa, مینا اسدی; born March 12, 1943) is an Iranian-born poet, author, journalist and songwriter who lives in exile in Stockholm, Sweden. Author She is known for writing about controversial and provocative subjects, especially when she describes the fight against the Iranian government. In 2007 she wrote the poem called "Pimps" (Djakesha). It caused a lot of discussion for being too vulgar. The poem is about those who live in Iran and in exile who have forgotten the struggle. She wrote her debut book, a collection of poems named " Minas Gift" (Armanghane Mina), at the age of 18. Thereafter she worked as a journalist for several well-known Iranian magazines, for example, Kayhan. Mahmoud Dowlatabadi ( fa, محمود دولتآبادی, ''Mahmud Dowlatâbâdi'') (born 1 August 1940 in Dowlatabad, Sabzevar) is an Iranian writer and actor, known for his promotion of social and artistic freedom in contemporary Iran and his realist depictions of rural life, drawn from personal experience.
