House Of Commons Of Canada
The House of Commons of Canada (french: Chambre des communes du Canada) is the lower house of the Parliament of Canada. Together with the Crown and the Senate of Canada, they comprise the bicameral legislature of Canada. The House of Commons is a democratically elected body whose members are known as members of Parliament (MPs). There have been 338 MPs since the most recent electoral district redistribution for the 2015 federal election, which saw the addition of 30 seats. Members are elected by simple plurality ("first-past-the-post" system) in each of the country's electoral districts, which are colloquially known as ''ridings''. MPs may hold office until Parliament is dissolved and serve for constitutionally limited terms of up to five years after an election. Historically, however, terms have ended before their expiry and the sitting government has typically dissolved parliament within four years of an election according to a long-standing convention. Calgary Skyview is a federal electoral district in Alberta, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 2015. Calgary Skyview was created by the 2012 federal electoral boundaries redistribution and was legally defined in the 2013 representation order. It came into effect upon the call of the 42nd Canadian federal election, scheduled for October 2015. It was created out of the electoral district of Calgary Northeast. Grande Prairie—Mackenzie
Grande Prairie—Mackenzie is a federal electoral district (Canada), electoral district in northwestern Alberta, Canadian federal electoral redistribution, 2012, created in 2012 from the Peace River (electoral district), Peace River district. It contains the western half of Alberta's Peace River Country, Peace region, including the city of Grande Prairie (where more than half its residents live) and stretching to the border with the Northwest Territories. It is impossible to traverse the district by road without leaving it, as the section of the Peace River contained within has no bridges or ferries. The riding was named Grande Prairie in the commission's initial report, but original plans for a much smaller riding were abandoned in the interest of keeping Peace River—Westlock more compact. Fort McMurray—Cold Lake is a federal electoral district (Canada), electoral district in Alberta, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 2015. It was Canadian federal electoral redistribution, 2012, created in 2012, mostly from the more urbanized portion of Fort McMurray—Athabasca (78%) combined with a portion of Westlock—St. Paul (22%). Edmonton—Wetaskiwin is a federal electoral district in Alberta, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 2015. Edmonton—Wetaskiwin was created by the 2012 federal electoral boundaries redistribution and was legally defined in the 2013 representation order. It came into effect upon the call of the 42nd Canadian federal election, scheduled for 19 October 2015. It was created out of the bulk of Edmonton—Mill Woods—Beaumont, as well as parts of Edmonton—Leduc, Wetaskiwin, and Vegreville—Wainwright. According to the 2021 census, Edmonton—Wetaskiwin is the most populated riding in Canada, with almost 100,000 residents more than the national average of 109,444. Its population grew at a rate of 89.28% since the 2011 census (on which the 2013 representation order was based). Edmonton West
Edmonton West (french: Edmonton-Ouest) is a federal electoral district in Alberta, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1917 to 1988, from 1997 to 2004 and again since 2015. Demographics History and geography This riding was first created in 1914 from Edmonton riding. Originally this was vast rural district including most of the northwestern quadrant of the province of Alberta and a portion of the city of Edmonton, the area north of the river and west of 101st Street. In 1924, it took in parts of the now-abolished Strathcona riding that had been within Edmonton city limits. It took in the southside area lying west of 103rd Street. In 1924 the northern rural sections were also separated to form the ridings of Peace River and Athabasca. In 1933 the more southerly portions became Jasper—Edson. Edmonton Strathcona (formerly known as Edmonton—Strathcona) is a federal electoral district in Alberta, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1953.
