This list is of the Historic Sites of Japan located within the Prefecture of Miyazaki. National Historic Sites As of 1 July 2019, twenty-three Sites have been designated as being of national significance (including one * Special Historic Site). Prefectural Historic Sites As of 1 May 2018, one hundred and nine Sites have been designated as being of prefectural importance. Municipal Historic Sites As of 1 May 2018, a further one hundred and nine Sites have been designated as being of municipal importance. Japan is divided into 47 prefectures (, ''todōfuken'', ), which rank immediately below the national government and form the country's first level of jurisdiction and administrative division. They include 43 prefectures proper (, ''ken''), two urban prefectures (, '' fu'': Osaka and Kyoto), one " circuit" or "territory" (, '' dō'': Hokkai-dō) and one metropolis (, '' to'': Tokyo). Chibatake Kofun
is a Kofun period keyhole-shaped burial mound, located in Sakurada, Hokita neighborhood of the city of Saito, Miyazaki in the Kyushu region of Japan. The tumulus was designated a National Historic Site of Japan in 1934. Overview The Chibatake Kofun is located on the left bank of the Hitotsuse River, on the southern slope of the Chausubaruhara plateau. On the opposite shore of the river is the Nishitobaru plateau with the Saitobaru Kofun Cluster. The Chibatake Kofun is part of the Chausuhara Kofun Cluster, which consists of three keyhole-shaped tombs and 52 round burial mounds. There are also more than 50 tombs in the area. Ikime Kofun Cluster
The is a group of Kofun period burial mounds located in the Atoe-cho neighborhood of the city of Miyazaki, Miyazaki Prefecture in Kyushu Japan. The tumulus group was designated a National Historic Site of Japan in 1943 with the area under protection expanded in 2007. Overview The Ikime Kofun Cluster is located along the west side of the Ōyodo River, and extends over an area about 1.3 kilometers from east-to-west, about 1.2 kilometers from north-to-south, with an elevation of about 20 meters above sea level. A group of tombs dating from the early to late middle Kofun period, when designated a National Historic site in 1943, it consisted of 43 tumuli, seven of which were , which are shaped like a keyhole, having one square end and one circular end, when viewed from above, and 36 -style round tombs. is a town located in Koyu District, Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan. As of October 1, 2019, the town has an estimated population of 16,663 and the density of 271 persons per km². Nyūtabaru Kofun Cluster
The is the name for four groups of Kofun period burial mounds located in the Nitta neighborhood of the town of Shintomi and the Umatsu neighborhood of the city of Saito, Miyazaki Prefecture in Kyushu Japan. The tumulus group was designated a National Historic Site of Japan in 1944. Background The Nyūtabaru Plateau is at an elevation of about 70 meters on the left bank of the Hitotsuse River that flows southeast from Hitotsuse Dam through Saito City and into the Hyūga Sea. The plateau contains 207 known burial mounds of various sizes and types. These are divided into four groups based on their distribution and construction period, and from the east to west are name the Tsukahara Kofun Cluster, Ishifune Kofun Cluster, Yamanobo Kofun Cluster, and Gionbara Kofun Cluster. Jōshinzuka Kofun
The is a Kofun period kofun, burial mound located in the Kamisanzai-chō neighborhood of the city of Saito, Miyazaki, Saito, Miyazaki Prefecture in Kyushu Japan. The tumulus was designated a Monuments of Japan, National Historic Site of Japan in 1980. Overview The Jōshinzuka Kofun is a rectangular -style tumulus, located on the left bank of the Sanzai River, at the southwest end of the Azukinohara Plateau at an elevation of 65 meters. It stands in isolation, and the surrounding moat and outer embankment remain almost completely intact. The tumulus measures approximately 24 meters on each side and has a height of 3.3 meters. The surrounding moat is approximately 2 meters wide and the outer embankment is 40 meters on each side, with a height of 1 meter.
