Niko Niko's
Niko Niko's Greek & American Café (more commonly known as Niko Niko's) is a restaurant located in Montrose District, Houston, Texas known for serving Greek cuisine. Chrisanthios Fetokakis opened the restaurant in 1977, and ownership was eventually passed on to his son, Dimitri Fetokakis. History According to Niko Niko's official site, Chrisanthios Fetokakis opened a walk-up window restaurant on May 1, 1977, earning $15 the first day it operated. After an initial struggle to open, Fetokakis received assistance from Pete Pappas of the Pappas Restaurants franchise. Eventually, Fetokakis' son Dimitri became owner of the restaurant. Dimitri considered Pappas a lifelong mentor, and was saddened by his death in 2005. In 2005, owner Dimitri Fetokakis began landscaping the median across from the restaurant as part of a commitment to Montrose Boulevard Conservancy's "beautification" project. Zenon Taverna is a restaurant serving Greek and Cypriot cuisine on 31st Avenue in Astoria, Queens, in the U.S. state of New York. Yia Yia Mary's (sometimes referred to as Yia Yia Mary's Greek Kitchen and Yia Yia Mary's Mediterranean Kitchen) was a Greek restaurant with two locations in Houston, in the U.S. state of Texas. Pappas Restaurants opened the Uptown Houston restaurant in 2004, and second Yia Yia Mary's began operating at William P. Hobby Airport in 2015. The restaurants served Greek cuisine including seafood and received a generally positive reception. Both locations closed in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Showmars is a Charlotte, North Carolina-based restaurant chain, serving a mix of American and Greek cuisines. It was founded by George Couchell (pronounced "coo-shell") in 1982. As of June 2006, Showmars operates 25 locations and employs about 1,000 employees. Company history Founding In 1982, first generation Greek immigrant George Couchell (who graduated from Duke University and was a Naval Officer) opened his first Showmars restaurant in Monroe, North Carolina. Besides Charlotte locations, it also covers Fort Mill, Gastonia, Huntersville, Concord, Mooresville, Monroe, Rock Hill, and Matthews. The restaurant was founded by Tassos and Chrisanthe Stefanopoulo in 2006; the two had gained experience after operating a Greek foods store next door, New Athens Corner. Papa Cristo's is a taverna styled Greek restaurant and market located in the Byzantine-Latino Quarter across the street from Saint Sophia's Church Greek Orthodox Church in Los Angeles, California. History Papa Cristo's was founded in October 1948 as an importing and exporting company bringing produce from Greece. The company, which was initially called C & K Importing, was founded by Greek immigrant Sam Chrys.
