List Of Glamorgan CCC Players
This is a list in alphabetical order of cricketers who have played for Glamorgan County Cricket Club in top-class matches since 1921 when the club joined the County Championship and the team was elevated to official first-class status. Glamorgan has been classified as a List A team since the beginning of limited overs cricket in 1963; and as a first-class Twenty20 team since the inauguration of the Twenty20 Cup in 2003. The details are the player's usual name followed by the years in which he was active as a Glamorgan player and then his name is given as it usually appears on match scorecards. Note that many players represented other top-class teams besides Glamorgan and that some played for the club in minor counties cricket before 1921. Current players are shown as active to the latest season in which they played for the club. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. Andrew Balbirnie
Andrew Balbirnie (born 28 December 1990) is an Irish cricketer, the current captain of the Ireland cricket team in all formats. Balbirnie is a right-handed batsman and an occasional wicket-keeper. He was born in Dublin and was educated at St. Andrew's College. He was one of the 11 cricketers to play in Ireland's first ever Test match, against Pakistan, in May 2018. In December 2018, he was one of 19 players to be awarded a central contract by Cricket Ireland for the 2019 season. In November 2019, Balbirnie was named as the captain of Ireland's Test and ODI team, after William Porterfield stepped down. Later the same month, he was also named as the captain of Ireland's Twenty20 International (T20I) team, replacing Gary Wilson. Pat Brain
John Henry Patrick 'Pat' Brain (17 March 1896 – 11 December 1945) was a Welsh cricketer. Brain was a right-handed batsman who played primarily as a wicket-keeper. He was born at Caerau, Glamorgan. Brain made his debut for Glamorgan in the 1920 Minor Counties Championship against Devon. He represented the county in 3 further Minor Counties fixtures in 1920. Following Glamorgan's elevation to first-class status, he represented the club in 6 matches between 1921 and 1928, making his debut against Derbyshire and playing his final first-class match for the county in 1928 against Oxford University. In his 7 first-class matches he scored 86 runs at a batting average of 8.60 and a high score of 19 *. Behind the stumps he took 3 catches and made 2 stumpings. Will Bragg
William David Bragg (born 24 October 1986) is a former Welsh cricketer. Born in Newport, he first came to prominence scoring an unbeaten 115 in Glamorgan's pre season tour of South Africa in 2007. He is a top order batsman for Glamorgan often batting at number 3, although Mark Cosgrove dislodged him from this spot for a little time. Despite his 45 first class matches, he has only managed two centuries against Leicestershire in 2011 and 2015. He is also a wicket-keeper. Elvyn Bowen
Elvyn Bowen (10 July 1907 – 24 August 1965) was a Welsh cricketer. Bowen was a left-handed batsman who bowled slow left-arm orthodox. He was born at Llannon, Carmarthenshire. Bowen made his first-class debut for Glamorgan in 1928 against Lancashire. He played a further first-class match for the county, against Essex and played his third and final match for the county against Northamptonshire. In his 3 first-class matches he scored 40 runs at a batting average of 10.00, with a high score of 22. Bowen died at Gorseinon, Glamorgan on 24 August 1965. Ronnie Boon
Ronald Winston Boon (11 June 1909 – 3 August 1998) was an international rugby union wing for Wales who played club rugby for Cardiff. Boon possessed a tremendous self-confidence in his own ability and this was reflected in his nickname ''Cocky''.Thomas (1979), pg 80.
