This is a list of suburbs in the City of Cape Town , South Africa which includes the city of Cape Town and its surrounding suburbs and exurbs Each suburb is followed by its postcode. The first code is for street deliveries, the second, where applicable, refers to PO boxes. Some suburbs share the same postcode. In South Africa, the term "suburb" does not necessarily mean "residential area on the edge of a city"; rather, it is used synonymously with neighbourhood to refer to the smallest geographical subdivision of the city. City Of Cape Town
The City of Cape Town ( af, Stad Kaapstad; xh, IsiXeko saseKapa) is the metropolitan municipality which governs the city of Cape Town, South Africa and its suburbs and exurbs. Three Anchor Bay
Three Anchor Bay is a suburb of Cape Town in the Western Cape province of South Africa. Small anchorage in Table Bay. The name, first encountered in 1661, possibly refers to anchors securing chains stretched as defence across the bay. The form Drieankerbaai is preferred for official purposes. Afrikaans language author and poet Ingrid Jonker drowned herself at the nearby beach on July 19, 1965. The National Sea Rescue Institute is headquartered there. Geology and geography In geological terms, the area is essentially a vast sheet of aeolian sand, ultimately of marine origin, which has blown up from the adjacent beaches over a period on the order of a hundred thousand years. Below the sand, the bedrock is in general the Malmesbury Shale, except on part of the western margin between Zeekoevlei to the south and Claremont and Wetton to the north, where an intrusive mass of Cape Granite is to be found. Langa, Cape Town
Langa is a township in Cape Town, South Africa. Its name in Xhosa means "sun". The township was initially built in phases before being formally opened in 1927. It was developed as a result of South Africa's 1923 Urban Areas Act (more commonly known as the "pass laws"), which was designed to force Africans to move from their homes into segregated locations. Similar to Nyanga, Langa is one of the many areas in South Africa that were designated for Black Africans before the apartheid era. It is the oldest of such suburbs in Cape Town and was the location of much resistance to apartheid. Langa is also where several people were killed on 21 March 1960, the same day as the Sharpeville massacre, during the anti-pass campaign. On 21 March 2010, now 50 years later, a monument was unveiled by the government in remembrance of the people who died while on the protest march. Gugulethu
Gugulethu is a township in the Western Cape, South Africa and is 15 km from Cape Town. Its name is a contraction of ''igugu lethu'', which is Xhosa for ''our pride''. Gugulethu, along with Nyanga, was established in the 1960s due to the overcrowding of Langa, which was the only black residential area for Cape Town at the time. Epping is an industrial area of Cape Town that is situated to the south of Thornton, Cape Town, Thornton, east of Pinelands, Cape Town, Pinelands and north of Langa, Cape Town, Langa. Crawford, Cape Town
Crawford is a suburb of Cape Town, South Africa, located to the east of the City Centre (CBD) on the Cape Flats to the south of the N2 highway. The suburb is surrounded by the suburbs of Lansdowne, Rondebosch East, Athlone, Belthorn Estate, Rylands, and Belgravia.
