John Irvin
John Irvin (born 7 May 1940) is an English film director. Born in Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, he began his career by directing a number of documentaries and television works, including the BBC adaptation of John le Carré's ''Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy''. He made several Hollywood films in the 1980s, including '' The Dogs of War'' (1980), ''Ghost Story'' (1981) and ''Hamburger Hill'' (1987). Irvin is a graduate of London Film School. Career Irvin directed his first films in the 1960s, such as the short subjects ''Gala Day'' (1963), ''Carousella'' (1965), the made-for-TV film ''East of Howard'' (1966), ''Bedtime'' (1967) and ''Mafia No!'' (1967). In the 1970s, Irvin directed exclusively for television, including drama episodes and made-for-TV films. Dick Clement (born 5 September 1937) is an English writer, director and producer. He became known for his writing partnership with Ian La Frenais for television series including ''The Likely Lads'', ''Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads?'', '' Porridge'', '' Lovejoy'' and ''Auf Wiedersehen, Pet''. Early life Born in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, England, Clement was educated at Bishop's Stortford College, and then spent a year in the US on an exchange visit. Kenny Everett (born Maurice James Christopher Cole; 25 December 1944 – 4 April 1995) was an English comedian, radio disc jockey and television presenter. After spells on pirate radio and Radio Luxembourg in the mid-1960s, he was one of the first DJs to join BBC Radio's newly created BBC Radio 1 in 1967. It was here he developed his trademark voices and surreal characters which he later adapted for television. Everett was dismissed from the BBC in 1970 after making remarks about a government minister's wife. He was later re-instated at the BBC, working both on local and national radio, but, in the Autumn of 1973, when commercial radio became licenced in the UK, he joined Capital Radio.
