Yugoslav Wars
The Yugoslav Wars were a series of separate but related#Naimark, Naimark (2003), p. xvii. ethnic conflicts, wars of independence, and Insurgency, insurgencies that took place in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, SFR Yugoslavia from 1991 to 2001. The conflicts both led up to and resulted from the breakup of Yugoslavia, which began in mid-1991, into six independent countries matching the six entities known as republics which previously composed Yugoslavia: Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, and North Macedonia (previously named ''Macedonia''). Yugoslavia's constituent republics declared independence due to unresolved tensions between ethnic minorities in the new countries, which fuelled the wars. While most of the conflicts ended through peace accords that involved full international recognition of new states, they resulted in a massive number of deaths as well as severe economic damage to the region. ''Mercy of the Sea'' ( hr, Milost mora) is a 2003 Croatian-Israeli war drama film directed by Dominik and Jakov Sedlar, starring Renée Estevez, Kevin Albano, Martin Sheen and Mike Bernardo. Plot Ana (Renée Estevez) lost her husband and brother in the Siege of Vukovar, but the disappearance of her son Anthony (Kevin Albano), after he was taken away by Yugoslav People's Army soldiers, affected her the most. Years later, she is trying to locate him in belief he is still alive. Her friend Ivan, a postman (Mike Bernardo), delivers her a letter from uncle Frederik in Dubrovnik (Martin Sheen), saying Anthony has been found. Ana goes to Dubrovnik, experiencing unusual encounters on her way there... Elie Chouraqui
Elie and Earlsferry is a coastal town and former royal burgh in Fife, and parish, Scotland, situated within the East Neuk beside Chapel Ness on the north coast of the Firth of Forth, eight miles east of Leven. The burgh comprised the linked villages of Elie ( ) to the east and to the west Earlsferry, which were formally merged in 1930 by the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1929. ''Harrison's Flowers'' is a 2000 film by Elie Chouraqui. It stars, among others, Andie MacDowell, Elias Koteas, Brendan Gleeson, Adrien Brody, Marie Trintignant, Gerard Butler, and David Strathairn. Željko Senečić
Željko Senečić (18 January 1933 – 2 January 2018) was a Croatian film and television production designer, film director and screenwriter. Senečić studied painting at the Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts and scenography at the Zagreb Academy of Drama Arts. His career in filmmaking and production design began in the early 1960s. His most memorable films include the Palme d'Or and Academy Award-winning ''The Tin Drum'' (''Die Blechtrommel'', 1979; directed by Volker Schlöndorff and partially filmed in Zagreb, with Senečić credited as production co-designer) and classics of Croatian cinema such as ''Rondo'' (1966), ''One Song a Day Takes Mischief Away'' (''Tko pjeva zlo ne misli'', 1970). Maurizio Zaccaro (born 8 May 1952 in Milan, Italy) is an Italian film director, cinematographer, film editor, and screenwriter. Biography Maurizio Zaccaro was born in Milan. After ending his study at the Milan Film School (1977) he took on work in Ermanno Olmi Film Factory and at the same time developed several short movies.
