Synagogue
A synagogue, ', 'house of assembly', or ', "house of prayer"; Yiddish: ''shul'', Ladino: or ' (from synagogue); or ', "community". sometimes referred to as shul, and interchangeably used with the word temple, is a Jewish house of worship. Kollel Yad Shaul
Kollel Yad Shaul is a ''Charedi'' yeshiva based in Johannesburg, South Africa. It played a pioneering role in the growth and spread of Torah in South Africa. It has produced numerous serving Rabbis and educatorsand provides a ''Beit Midrash'' open to the wider community. Established in the early 1970's, it was originally based in Yeoville, Johannesburg until 2000, when it moved to the suburb of The GardensRabbi :he:אריה_ליב_גרוסנס#משפחתו , Boruch Dov Grossnass headed "The Kollel", as it is known, for 40 years; Rabbi Grossnass took over from the late Rabbi Mordechai Shakovitzky when the latter moved to Israel. From 2018 -2021 it was headed by Rabbi Baruch Rubanowitz. The Kollel is also well known for its lending library. It previously housed the Yeshiva Pri Eitz Chaim. Hara Seghira Synagogue
The Hara Seghira Synagogue () is located on Moktar Attia Street, just north of Place L’Independence, in the town of Er Riadh on the island of Djerba, Tunisia. Yeshiva Pri Eitz Chaim
Yeshiva Pri Eitz Chaim was a Chareidi (Litvishe) Yeshiva based in Johannesburg, South Africa. The Yeshiva was established in 2004 by Rabbi Adam Saffer together with Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Rabbi Eichenstein and operated for three years, and was located in Kollel Yad Shaul in Gardens, Johannesburg. Rabbi Eichestein was joined in 2007 by Rabbi Gedalya Sternstein. Rabbi Eichenstein delivered weekly lectures to the public, as well as to high school students, in addition to his Yeshiva duties. Yeshiva Of Cape Town
The Yeshiva of Cape Town is a kollel and yeshiva established in 1994. Its full title is "The Rabbi Cyril and Ann Harris Yeshiva of Cape Town", named for the late Chief Rabbi. It is based in the ''Green and Sea Point Hebrew Congregation'', in the suburb of Sea Point, Cape Town. The Yeshiva's ideology is Religious Zionist / Centrist Orthodox. It was previously headed by Rabbi Sam Thurgood, Rabbi Eitan Bendavid, Rabbi Moshe Ordman, Rabbi Nachum Romm, Rabbi Yossi Slotnik and Rabbi Ori Einhorn, and originally by Rabbi Jonathan Glasand Moshe Kornblu It served as the blueprint for the :he:תורה מציון (ארגון) , ''Torah MiTzion'' global Kollel initiative, now operating in some 40 cities. Yeshiva Maharsha Beis Aharon
Yeshiva Maharsha Beis Aharon is a Haredi Community based in Fairmount, Johannesburg. The community was founded in 1982 by the late Rabbi Aharon Pfeuffer (for whom the Yeshiva was later named), and is Headed by Rabbi M. Raff. The Yeshiva comprises a Beit Midrash. It also operates a pre-primary, and primary and high schools for boys and girls. In 2014, the synagogue and school facilities were renovated. Yeshivah Gedolah Of Johannesburg
Yeshivah Gedolah of Johannesburg was one of the first Yeshivot established in South Africa. Since its founding in 1978, it has played an important - though understated - role in the South African religious community. It is based in Glenhazel, Johannesburg. It was established and headed by Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Azriel Goldfein until his death in 2007, and is now headed by his sons Rabbi Avraham and Rabbi David Goldfein. The Yeshiva accommodates students from across the spectrum of Orthodoxy. The Hirsch Lyons Primary and High Schools are associated with the Yeshivah. Rabbi Goldfein studied in Telz Yeshiva, under great rabbis who survived the Holocaust, and was a lifelong ''talmid muvhak'' (prominent student) of Rabbi Mordechai Gifter. The Yeshiva College of South Africa (''Yeshivat Beit Yitzchak''), commonly known as Yeshiva College - and formerly known as Yeshivat Bnei Akiva - is South Africa’s largest religious Jewish Day School. The school is headed by Mr Rob Lonsince 2018; the Rosh Yeshiva is RabbNechemya Tayloras of 2021. Yeshiva College Yeshiva College was established in 1953; it is located in the Glenhazel, Gauteng, Glenhazel area of Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. The school has around 500 pupils, between the ages of 3 and 18. It consists of a nursery school (up to age 6), a coeducational primary school (grades 0-6), and separate boys' and girls' high schools (grade 7-12). United Herzlia Schools
The United Herzlia Schools is an organisation that manages the delivery of separate Jewish education in Cape Town in South Africa. History One of the earliest Jewish schools was the Hope Mill Hebrew Public School which was located at the top of Government Avenue, close to the Cape Town Hebrew Congregation. By 1901 it had about 350 students. The school received state assistance from the Cape school board and the school gradually lost its Jewish character. A Talmud Torah school was established in District Six in 1899 and by 1903 it housed 100 pupils. In 1919, the United Hebrew Schools of Cape Town were established. The school was housed at 101 Hope Street under the principalship of Mr Joseph Homa. The Rabbinical College of Pretoria (Hebrew ''Yeshiva LeRabbonus Pretoria'') is a Chabad Yeshiva in Pretoria, South Africa. It was established in 2001 under the inspiration of late Chief Rabbi Cyril Harris.
