This is a list of seasons completed by the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets football team of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, Division II. Adolph Hamblin served as head coach from 1921 to 1944 and led the 1936 West Virginia State Yellow Jackets football team to a black college football national championship. They were previously members of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference WVIAC). They are currently members of the Mountain East Conference (MEC). The West Virginia State Yellow Jackets football program represents West Virginia State University in college football at the NCAA Division II level in the Mountain East Conference. West Virginia State began competing in intercollegiate football in 1942. History Conference championships West Virginia State has won 3 conference championships in school history. Two championships were when they were a member of Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association and one as a member of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC). The 1949 West Virginia State Yellow Jackets football team was an American football team that represented West Virginia State University as a member of the Colored Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) during the 1949 college football season. In their fifth season under head coach Mark Cardwell, the team compiled an 8–0–1 record and outscored opponents by a total of 197 to 79. The team ranked No. 3 among the nation's black college football teams according to the ''Pittsburgh Courier'' and its Dickinson Rating System. The team played its home games at Lakin Field in Institute, West Virginia.
