Rebecca Evans (singer)
Rebecca Ann Evans is a Welsh operatic soprano. Personal life Evans was born in Pontrhydyfen. She married Stephen Jones in 1997, and they have one son, William. They live in Penarth, South Wales. Career Evans studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Evans has performed as Susanna (''The Marriage of Figaro'') for the Santa Fe Opera; Adele (''Die Fledermaus'') for the Chicago Lyric Opera; Zerlina (''Don Giovanni''), Ann Trulove (''The Rake's Progress'') and Adina (''L'elisir d'amore'') for San Francisco Opera; and both Susanna and Zerlina for the Metropolitan Opera, New York. Max Boyce
Maxwell Boyce, (born 27 September 1943) is a Welsh comedian, singer and entertainer. He rose to fame in the mid-1970s with an act that combined musical comedy with his passion for rugby union and his origins in a South Wales mining community. Boyce's '' We All Had Doctors' Papers'' (1975) remains the only comedy album to have topped the UK Albums Chart and he has sold more than two million albums in a career spanning four decades. Early life Max Boyce was born in Glynneath. His family was originally from Ynyshir in the Rhondda Valley. His mother was Mary Elizabeth Harries. Julie Murphy (singer)
Julie Murphy (born 1961) is an English singer. She sings in the Welsh band Fernhill, as well as performing and recording as a solo artist. She has also collaborated musically with John Cale (performing together in the film ''Beautiful Mistake''), and Afro Celt Sound System (in a duet with Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin). Siân James (musician)
Siân James (born 24 December 1961) is a Welsh traditional folk singer and harpist who has recorded for Sain and BBC Records as well as her own label, Bos. A native of the Mid Wales village of Llanerfyl in Powys, Siân James participated, from an early age, in local eisteddfodau, playing the piano, the violin and later the harp. While still a student at Llanfair Caereinion High School, she began composing her own songs and arranging traditional Welsh music. She went on to read music at the University of Wales, Bangor. She is also well known for her acting work on Welsh language television. Having been a recording artist for Sain and BBC Records, James has, in the 2000s, recorded her work for Bos at her home studio in Llanerfyl. Dafydd Iwan
Dafydd Iwan Jones (born 24 August 1943) is a Welsh singer and nationalist politician who rose to fame writing and performing folk music in the Welsh language. From 2003 to 2010, Iwan was the president of Plaid Cymru, a political party which advocates for Welsh independence from the UK. Early life Dafydd Iwan Jones was born in Brynamman, Carmarthenshire. One of four boys, his siblings include the actor Huw Ceredig and the politician Alun Ffred Jones. His paternal grandfather, Fred Jones, was a member of the Bardic family Teulu'r Cilie, and a founding member of Plaid Cymru. He spent most of his youth in Bala in Gwynedd before attending the University of Wales, Cardiff, where he studied architecture. Ar Log
Ar Log (Welsh for "for hire") are a Welsh folk band. They have performed since the 1970s and are recognized as the first professional Welsh folk band. They perform instrumental music and songs in Welsh. Career The original 1976 members were Dave Burns (guitar), Dafydd Roberts (triple harp, flute), Gwyndaf Roberts (knee harp and bass) and Iolo Jones ( fiddle). The four individuals were brought together by the Welsh Committee of the Lorient Festival who were eager that a Welsh traditional group should represent the nation at that year's Interceltique festival in Lorient. Here they met The Dubliners, who suggested that they should stay together and turn professional. When they arrived in Brittany they had to think of a name and to reflect their status they called themselves Ar Log which means 'For Hire'. Shân Cothi
Shân Margaretta Morgan (born 25 October 1965), known professionally as Shân Cothi, is a Welsh singer-songwriter, television and radio presenter. Early life Cothi was born in Ffarmers, Carmarthenshire, the younger of two children of Dai and Joan Morgan. She was known locally as "Shân y Gof" ( en, "Shân the Blacksmith") owing to her father's job as a blacksmith. Cothi adopted her stage name when she was one of two Shân Morgans competing in the Cardigan Eisteddfod as a child. She later graduated in music and drama from Aberystwyth University and subsequently trained to become a music teacher at secondary level. She has since been honoured with fellowships from both Aberystwyth University and the University of Wales, Lampeter. Llŷr Williams
Llŷr Williams (born 1976) is a Welsh concert pianist. Childhood Williams was born in the village of Pentre Bychan in Wrexham, Wales. He inherited an interest in opera from his father, and before the age of seven he was attending performances in Llandudno and in Manchester. He started with the operas of Giuseppe Verdi, but by the age of ten he had also developed a taste for those of Richard Wagner. He began piano lessons at the age of seven. By the age eleven he had passed Grades I-VIII, all with Distinction. Wynne Evans BEM MStJ (born 27 January 1972) is a Welsh singer and actor, known for his role as Gio Compario and laterly himself in the Go.compare insurance adverts on television in the United Kingdom. Evans sang the role of Ubaldo Piangi in the 25th anniversary production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's ''The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall'', and sang "Glory Glory Tottenham Hotspur" at the last game at White Hart Lane. Catrin Finch
Catrin Ana Finch is a Welsh harpist, arranger and composer. She was the Official Harpist to the Prince of Wales from 2000 to 2004 and is visiting professor at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and the Royal Academy of Music in London. Finch has given recitals at venues throughout the world. Early life Catrin Finch was born in Llanon, Ceredigion, and began learning the harp at the age of six. Her mother is German and her father English, and she is a fluent Welsh speaker. By the age of nine, she had passed her grade VIII harp examination. Aled Jones, (born 29 December 1970) is a Welsh singer and radio and television presenter. As a teenage chorister, he reached widespread fame during the mid-1980s.
