List Of Vice Chancellors Of Dhaka University
Dhaka University is the oldest university in Bangladesh. It was established in 1921. Since its establishment, 26 academic scholars and educationalists have taken responsibility of the University of Dhaka as the Vice Chancellor. The present Vice Chancellor is ASM Maksud Kamal. First Indian Muslim Vice Chancellor of this university was Sir Ahmad Fazlur Rahman. After him a famous historian Professor R. C. Majumdar took over the responsibility. Prof. Sayed Moazzem Hossain was the first student of Dhaka University to become the Vice Chancellor. In March 1971, Justice Abu Sayeed Chowdhury was the Vice Chancellor but he was in Geneva at that time to attend the UN Human Rights Commission summit. He became fed up seeing news in a newspaper about the death of two students of Dhaka University. He resigned from his duties sending a letter to the educational secretary of East Pakistan via the Pakistan Embassy. University Of Dhaka
The University of Dhaka (also known as Dhaka University, or DU) is a public research university located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is the oldest university in Bangladesh. The university opened its doors to students on July 1st 1921. Currently it is the largest public research university in Bangladesh, with a student body of 46,150 and a faculty of 1,992. Nawab Bahadur Sir Khwaja Salimullah, who played a pioneering role in establishing the university in Dhaka, donated 600 acres of land from his estate for this purpose. It has made significant contributions to the modern history of Bangladesh. After the Partition of India, it became the focal point of progressive and democratic movements in Pakistan. Muhammad Ibrahim (justice)
Muhammad Ibrahim (known as Justice M Ibrahim; September 1894 – 13 October 1966) was a Bengali judge and academic. He served as the 8th Vice-chancellor of the University of Dhaka during 1956–1958. Early life and education Ibrahim was born in September 1894 in Shaildubi village of Sadarpur Upazila in Faridpur District to Ghiyasuddin Ahmed. Ibrahim passed matriculation exam from Barisal Zilla School and intermediate exam from Dhaka College in 1916 and 1918 respectively. He completed his bachelor's in English literature. He then studied Law under the persuasion of Nares Chandra Sen-Gupta. He earned a law degree in 1921. Career Ibrahim practiced law at Faridpur during 1922–1923, and joined the Dhaka District Bar in 1924. He also served as a part-time teacher at the University of Dhaka from 1924 until 1943. Emajuddin Ahamed
Emajuddin Ahamed (15 December 1933 – 17 July 2020) was a Bangladeshi political scientist, author and educationist. He served as the 21st vice-chancellor of the University of Dhaka during 1992–1996. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 1992 by the Government of Bangladesh in the education category. Early life and education Ahamed was born in Malda district in West Bengal in the then British India. He later moved to the Chapai Nawabganj District in Bangladesh with his family. Ahamed received his early education in Rajshahi. He got his bachelor's degree from Rajshahi College. He then joined the civil service as a lecturer of government college. He became the principal of the college. Mohammad Moniruzzaman Miah ( – June 13, 2016) was a Bangladeshi academic. He served as the 20th vice-chancellor of the University of Dhaka from March 1990 until October 1992. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2004 by the Government of Bangladesh for his contribution to education. Education and career Miah completed his master's from the University of Rajshahi. Abdul Mannan (1 January 1932 – 30 April 2007) was a Bangladeshi academic. He served as the 19th Vice-chancellor of the University of Dhaka. A K M Siddiq, born Abul Khair Muhammad Siddiq, was an academic from Bangladesh who was the 18th Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University. Early life Siddiq was a PhD from the University of Saskatchewan in Physics. He joined the University of Dhaka in 1950. Career Siddiq was the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka from 21 March 1983 to 16 August 1983. Fazlul Halim Chowdhury
Fazlul Halim Chowdhury (1 August 19309 April 1996) was a fellow of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences and one of the longest-serving Vice-Chancellors of the University of Dhaka. He made pioneering contributions to the development of physical chemistry in Bangladesh, publishing more than 20 articles. He focused on cellulose fibers (especially jute), polyelectrolytes, and proteins. Muhammad Shamsul Huq ( bn, মুহাম্মদ শামসুল হক; 12 October 1912 – 23 February 2006) was a Bangladeshi academic and minister. Abdul Matin Chowdhury (1 May 1921 – 24 June 1981) was a Bangladeshi academic and physicist. He served as the 14th Vice-chancellor of the University of Dhaka.
