University Of New Mexico
The University of New Mexico (UNM; es, Universidad de Nuevo México) is a public research university in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Founded in 1889, it is the state's flagship academic institution and the largest by enrollment, with over 25,400 students in 2021. UNM comprises twelve colleges and schools, including the only law school in New Mexico. It offers 94 baccalaureate, 71 masters, and 37 doctoral degrees. The main campus spans in central Albuquerque, with branch campuses in Gallup, Los Alamos, Rio Rancho, Taos, and Los Lunas. F. Chris Garcia (born April 15, 1940) is an educator, scholar, researcher, author, public opinion pollster and higher education administrator. From 2002-2003, he served as the president of University of New Mexico. Garcia was the first native New Mexican Hispanic to serve as a college dean, academic vice-president and president at the University of New Mexico. Early life and education Garcia was born April 15, 1940, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was the first of six children born to Flaviano Perea Garcia and Crucita A. Garcia. His christened name was Flaviano Cresencio Garcia. Garcia was baptized at San Ignacio Church in Martineztown, an Albuquerque neighborhood, where his father was raised. Chaouki Abdallah
Chaouki Tanios Abdallah is a Lebanese-American engineer and academic administrator who served as the 22nd President of the University of New Mexico. Early life and education Abdallah was born and raised in Lebanon. He began his education at the Saint Joseph University before earning a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Youngstown State University. Abdallah earned a Master of Science and PhD in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech. Career Abdallah was active in designing international graduate programs with Latin American and European countries. In 1990, he co-founded the Ibero-American Science and Technology Education Consortium (ISTEC), which includes more than 150 universities in Latin America, Spain and the United States. David John Haskins (born 24 April 1957, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England), better known as David J, is a British alternative rock musician, producer, and writer. He is the bassist for the gothic rock band Bauhaus and for Love and Rockets. Louis Edward Caldera (born April 1, 1956) is an American politician and member of the Democratic Party who served as the director of the White House Military Office from January to May 2009, as the 17th United States Secretary of the Army from July 1998 to January 2001 and as a California State Assemblyman from January 1992 to January 1997. Family and education Caldera, the son of Mexican immigrants, Soledad and Benjamin Caldera, was born on April 1, 1956 in El Paso, Texas. Tom Farer, (born 1935) is an Americans, American academic, author and former president of the University of New Mexico. Since ending his tenure at New Mexico in 1986, Farer served as dean of the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver from 1996 to 2010. John Philip Wernette
John "Philip" Wernette (October 29, 1903 – August 12, 1988) was the eighth president of the University of New Mexico serving from 1945 to 1948. Early life Wernette was born in Imlay City, Michigan to parents Jacob Israel and Bessie (Barris) Wernette and grew up in Grand Rapids. His family moved to California in 1917 while he was still in high school. He began attending college at UCLA in 1919 where he was a member of Sigma Pi fraternity. He transferred to the University of California, Berkeley where he earned his A.B. degree in 1924. He earned an A.M. degree at the University of Southern California in 1926.
