Samuel Hunter Adams
Samuel Hunter Adams (September 3, 1878 – December 10, 1975) was a Canadian lawyer and politician from Alberta. He was elected the 21st List of mayors of Calgary, Mayor of Calgary in 1920, serving as mayor for three years. Early life Samuel Hunter Adams was born on September 3, 1878 near Dundas, Ontario to Samuel and Mary J. Adams (née Loughery). Adams attended public school in West Flamborough and high school in Dundas, and later moved to Manitoba in 1897 where he attended Normal School and later taught school. He entered Manitoba College in 1902 and completed a Bachelor of Arts in 1906 and subsequently moved to Calgary later in fall that year. Adams began studying law when he arrived in Calgary in the offices of Bernard & Bernard and Jones & Nichols. Germaine Arnaktauyok
Germaine Arnaktauyok (born in Maniitsoq, Greenland in 1946) is an Inuk printmaker, painter, and drawer originating from the Igloolik area of Nunavut, then the Northwest Territories. Arnaktauyok drew at an early age with any source of paper she could find. The media she works with consists of lithographs, etchings, and serigraphs that illustrate Inuit myths and traditional ways of life from her past experiences and ancestral culture. Her designs are two-dimensional revealing expressive line work illustrations that indicate personal stories incorporated in the subject of past Inuit tales. Family Until the mid 1960s, she lived with her family in a camp inland from the town where seals and caribou were plentiful for hunting. Victor Anonsen (born May 19, 1954) is a Canadian artist and former professional football player, born in Moose Jaw, who played in the Canadian Football League as a wide receiver. A graduate of the University of Manitoba, in 1978 he played three games with the Calgary Stampeders and two regular season games and three play-off games - including the Grey Cup - with the Montreal Alouettes. In 1979 he played 12 games with the Toronto Argonauts and two with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Anonsen caught 8 passes for 115 yards in his career. Nancy Ames is a Canadian scientist with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada known for her research on the nutrition and quality of cereals and pulses. She works closely with plant scientists to maximize the health benefits of new varieties and ensure that these benefits are maintained when the crops are harvested and processed. Ames also works with food processors to develop new food processing techniques and new ways to evaluate them. She has invented new food products and holds two patents. She was the scientific lead that lead to the health claim “Barley beta-glucan soluble fibre and reduction of blood cholesterol, a risk factor for cardiovascular disease” which was approved by Health Canada in 2012. Rob Altemeyer
Rob Altemeyer is a politician in Manitoba, Canada. He was a member of the Manitoba legislature from 2003 to 2019. Altemeyer has long been involved in social justice and environmental issues in the Winnipeg area. He was responsible for implementing a recycling program at the University of Manitoba, and was one of the founders of the Global Change Game (an internationally respected educational program) while still a student. Altemeyer served a two-year term on the Council of Canadians, and has taken part in a variety of activities in the fair trade/anti-globalization movement. Peter Allen (born 18 February 1952) is a Canadian composer, organist, and keyboard player. An associate of the Canadian Music Centre and a member of the Canadian League of Composers, his compositions encompass a broad repertoire from film scores and commercial jingles to sacred music and avant-garde electroacoustic music. He has composed numerous works for CBC Radio and CBC Television. Judie Alimonti
Judie Barbara Alimonti (1960–2017) was a Canadian immunologist known for her research on the RVSV-ZEBOV Ebola vaccine. In 1991, Alimonti received a Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology from the University of British Columbia. She later earned a PhD in immunology from the University of Manitoba. Alimonti managed the Canadian testing of a human-grade Ebola vaccine at the National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
