The list contains only universities or colleges, either four-year or two-year, that still exist today and are classified as "schools" according to Article 1 of the School Education Law. (See Daigakkō for universities that are not considered "schools".) Also, each university or college is listed in the prefecture in which its headquarters is located, not the location of their satellite campuses, etc. or that of some of its departments or divisions. Prefectures Of Japan
Japan is divided into 47 prefectures (, ''todōfuken'', ), which rank immediately below the national government and form the country's first level of jurisdiction and administrative division. They include 43 prefectures proper (, ''ken''), two urban prefectures (, '' fu'': Osaka and Kyoto), one " circuit" or "territory" (, '' dō'': Hokkai-dō) and one metropolis (, '' to'': Tokyo). In 1868, the Meiji ''Fuhanken sanchisei'' administration created the first prefectures (urban ''fu'' and rural ''ken'') to replace the urban and rural administrators (''bugyō'', ''daikan'', etc.) in the parts of the country previously controlled directly by the shogunate and a few territories of rebels/shogunate loyalists who had not submitted to the new government such as Aizu/ Wakamatsu. Junior College Aichi Gakuin University
is a private university in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. It has campuses at the city of Nisshin, Aichi, Chikusa-ku, Nagoya and Meijō Park in Nagoya. The predecessor of the university, a Soto Zen college, was founded in 1876, and it was chartered as a university in 1953. History The university began as a Soto Zen school in 1876, and retains strong connections to Soto Zen. In 1903 in accordance with revisions to education regulations, it was renamed the Sotozen No. 3 middle school. In 1925 it was renamed the Aichi middle school. Daido Institute Of Technology
is a coeducational private university in Minami-ku, Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. History The university began as the Daido Technical-Educational Foundation in 1939. In 1969, the school became the Daido Institute of Technology. The university traces its origin back to the companies founded by Momosuke Fukuzawa. These companies consist of the Great Consolidated Electric Power Company, Limited (current: Kansai Electric Power Company and Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc.), the Nisshinbo Industries, Toho Gas Co., Ltd., Daido Steel Co., Ltd., Toagosei and Nagoya Railroad Co., Ltd.
