Parliament Of Sri Lanka
The Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka (Sinhala: ශ්‍රී ලංකා පාර්ලිමේන්තුව ''Shri Lanka Parlimenthuwa'', Tamil: இலங்கை நாடாளுமன்றம் ''Ilaṅkai nāṭāḷumaṉṟam'') is the supreme legislative body of Sri Lanka. It alone possesses legislative supremacy and thereby ultimate power over all other political bodies in the island. It is modeled after the British Parliament. It consists of 225 members known as Members of Parliament (MPs). Members are elected by proportional representation for five-year terms, with universal suffrage. The President of Sri Lanka has the power to summon, suspend, prorogue, or terminate a legislative session and to dissolve the Parliament. President can dissolve Parliament only after the lapse of years or if majority of Members of Parliament requests him. Sarath Amunugama (politician)
Sarath Leelananda Bandara Amunugama ( Sinhala:සරත් ලීලානන්ද බණඩාර අමුනුගම), MP, SLAS (born July 10, 1939) is a Sri Lankan politician and civil servant. He was the Cabinet Minister of Public Administration and Home Affairs and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning until April 2010. He is a Member of Parliament from the Kandy District for the United People's Freedom Alliance in the Parliament of Sri Lanka. He studied at the Trinity College, Kandy and graduated from the University of Ceylon. He joined the Ceylon Civil Service (CCS) in its last intake of cadets in 1962. Following the disestablishment of the CCS he was transferred to its successor the Ceylon Administrative Service which was later renamed as the Sri Lanka Administrative Service (SLAS). Padmalal De Alwis
Padmalal de Alwis is a Sri Lankan politician and a member of the Central Provincial Council. He is a member of the United National Party. He is known as 'Kalu Aliya'. He is the acting president in the Central Provincial Council as an opposition member. Early life De Alwis was born and raised in Kandy. His father was a businessman who owned mills island wide. Politics De Alwis was a member in the United National Party from 1977 to 1997. In 1997 he was elected to the Akurana Pradhesha Saba with the most votes of a Sinhala leader in Akurana Electorate. Anandatissa De Alwis
Maha Amarasinghege Anandatissa de Alwis (21 August 1919 – 22 August 1996) was a Sri Lankan journalist, marketer and politician. He was the Speaker of the National State Assembly, a Minister of State and the fourth Governor of the North Western Province of Sri Lanka. Early career De Alwis started his career as a journalist, serving as a war-time reporter. Later he served as private secretary to Sir John Kotelawala. He thereafter moved into advertising, working as a copy writer with Reggie Candappa at Grant McCann Erickson. He then left Grants to join J. Walter Thompson. He left J. Walter Thompson in 1965, to take up the post of Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of State, under J. R. Jayewardene who was the Minister of State. De Alwis was the first permanent secretary appointed from the private sector. Rohitha Bogollagama
Chandrasekera Rohitha Bandara Bogollagama (born 6 August 1954) (known as ''Rohitha Bogollagama'') (Sinhala language, Sinhala: රෝහිත බෝගොල්ලාගම, ta, ரோகித போகோல்லாகம) is a Sri Lankan politician and ex Governor of Eastern Province. He was the former Sri Lanka Freedom Party chief organiser for the Kotte Electorate. He had also served as the Cabinet Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, Minister of Foreign Affairs from 28 January 2007 until he was defeated in the 2010 Sri Lankan parliamentary election, General Elections held on 8 April 2010, losing his seat in parliament. Harold Herath
Deshabandu James Edward Herath Herald known as Harold Herath (10 March 1930 – 31 August 2007) was a senior Sri Lankan politician and Cabinet Minister. Herath was most notably Minister of Foreign Affairs under President Ranasinghe Premadasa from 1991 to 1993. He entered Parliament winning the Nattandiya electorate in the Puttalam Electoral District 1977, and held his seat until 2000 retiring not contesting the 2001 parliamentary election. He has also held the portfolios of Minister of Justice and Minister of Coconut Development. In 2005 Harold Herath was conferred the national honour and title Deshabandu by President Chandrika Kumaratunga. Harold Herath died on 31 August 2007 after a brief illness, he was 77. He was married to Gwen Herath, a former Provincial Council member and President of the Women's Cricket Association of Sri Lanka (WCASL), and was father to three children. Rathnayaka Mudiyanselage Ranjith Madduma Bandara (born 25 August 1954) (known as ''Ranjith Madduma Bandara'') is a Sri Lankan politician and a member of the Parliament of Sri Lanka. He was appointed as the cabinet Minister of Law and Order and Minister of Public Administration and Management by the President, Maithripala Sirisena on 8 March 2018. Palitha Range Bandara (born September 8, 1962) is a Sri Lankan politician. He was a State Minister of Irrigation and Water Resource Management and a former member of the Parliament of Sri Lanka from Anamaduwa. Born Range Bandarage Palitha Range Bandara as the sixth child to a family of eleven children in the remote village of Karuwalagaswewa off Puttalam. He received his education at Ananda College Puttalam. He joined the Sri Lanka Police as a police constable in 1983 and served until he retired on August 24, 2000 in the grade of Sub-Inspector of Police. Deshamanya Marhoom Al Haj Mohammed Abdul Bakeer Markar (12 May 1917 – 10 September 1997) was a Sri Lankan politician and civil servant. He was the Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka and Governor of the Southern Province. Personal life He was born on 12 May 1917 in Beruwala, Maradana, Sri Lanka. Bakeer Markar's ancestry is traced to Sheik Jamaluddeen-Al-Maghdoomi, an Arab settler who settled down in the sea board town of Beruwala.
