Abdullah Ssekimwanyi
Sheikh Abdullah Ssekimwanyi was the first Ugandan to make a holy pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia in the 1920s. Making a pilgrimage to Mecca is the 5th pillar or obligation of the faith Islam. On his return, he urged Muslims to stop holding the daily Dhuhuri (noon prayer on Friday). He also started translating Friday khutuba (sermons) in Luganda and other local languages. He is the founder of Africa Muslim Community, Juma Sect, of Bukoto-Nateete. As of July 2009, there are an estimated 3,916,717 Muslims in Uganda. Crispus Kiyonga
Crispus Walter Kiyonga (born 1 January 1952), whose first name is sometimes spelled Chrispus, is a Ugandan physician, politician and diplomat, who serves as Uganda's Ambassador to China, based in Beijing. He previously served as the Minister of Defence in the Cabinet of Uganda from 2006 to 2016. Prior to that, he was Minister Without Portfolio in the Office of the President from 2005 to 2006. During the cabinet reshuffle of 16 February 2009, and that of 27 May 2011, and that of 1 March 2015, he retained his cabinet post. In 2016, he lost the Member of Parliament (MP) seat for Bukonjo County West to Hon. Robert Katusabe, Kasese District, in the Ugandan Parliament. Francis Butagira
Francis K. Butagira (born 22 November 1942) is a Ugandan lawyer, judge, politician and retired diplomat, who serves as the chairman of the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), an agency of the Ugandan government responsible for maintaining registration data. He was appointed to that position in October 2015. He concurrently serves as the Managing Partner of ''Butagira and Company Advocates'', a Kampala-based legal practice. Before that, he served as a Member of Parliament and as Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament(1980-1985). He has also served as Ambassador to Ethiopia, Kenya, Germany, Austria and the Vatican. Ezra Suruma
Ezra Suruma (born 11 November 1945), is a Ugandan economist, banker, and academic. He became the chancellor of Makerere University in January 2016. He formerly served as a senior adviser to the president of Uganda on finance and economic planning, a position he held from 16 February 2009 until 15 January 2016. Previously, he was a visiting fellow at the Brookings Institution, in Washington, D. C., at the Africa Growth Initiative division of the institution. He was appointed to that position in April 2010. Ephraim Kamuntu
Ephraim Kamuntu is a Ugandan management scientist and politician. He is the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs in the Cabinet of Uganda. He was appointed to that position on 14 December 2019. Previously he served as Minister of Water and Environment from August 2012 to June 2016. Eriya Kategaya
Eriya Kategaya (4 July 1945 – 2 March 2013) was a Ugandan lawyer and politician. At the time of his death he was Uganda's First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs. He was also an ''ex officio'' Member of the Ugandan Parliament, on account of being a cabinet minister. Background He was born on 4 July 1943 in Karagwe Itojo, Ntungamo District, in Western Uganda. Eriya Kategaya was a longtime associate of President Yoweri Museveni, starting from their school days in Ntare School. They studied together at Mbarara High School and later at Ntare School from 1961 to 1966. Kategaya and Museveni also attended the University of Dar es Salaam at the same time. Emmy Okello
Emmy Okello, is a Ugandan consultant physician who has specialized as an interventional cardiologist and researcher. He serves as the Head of the Cardiac Catheterization Department at Uganda Heart Institute, the government institution in Kampala that specializes in the treatment of congenital and acquired cardiac disorders. Okello has special interest in rheumatic heart disease (RHD), and is one of the recognized leaders in this area of cardiology in the region. Emmanuel Otala
Emmanuel Otiam Otala is a Ugandan physician and politician. He served as the Labour relations, State Minister for Labor in the Cabinet of Uganda, Ugandan Cabinet from February 2009 until May 2011. Before that, he served as the Uganda Ministry of Health, State Minister of Health for Primary Care from June 2006 until February 2009. In the cabinet reshuffle of 27 May 2011, he was dropped and replaced by Mwesigwa Rukutana. Emmanuel Amey Ojara, MBChB, MMed Surgery, (10 February 1944 – 26 July 1987) was a medical doctor, surgeon, and oncologist in East Africa. At the time of his death, he was a senior lecturer at the University of Nairobi, School of Medicine.
