The Golden Gloves is a term used to refer to the National Golden Gloves competition, but can also represent several other amateur tournaments, including regional golden gloves tournaments and other notable tournaments such as the Intercity Golden Gloves, the Chicago Golden Gloves, and the New York Golden Gloves. Career Amateur career Known as "Kid USA", Watkins had an outstanding amateur career, and was the upset winner of the 1984 National Golden Gloves Welterweight Championship and the 1985 and 1986 National Golden Gloves Light middleweight Champion. Donald Curry (born September 7, 1961), is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1980 to 1991, and in 1997. He held the WBA world welterweight title from 1983 to 1986, the undisputed world welterweight title from 1985 to 1986 and the WBC light middleweight title from 1988 to 1989, and challenged once for the IBF middleweight title in 1990. He was selected a member of the All-American AAU boxing team for 1973, and was named the top welterweight amateur boxer in the nation in 1973 by the National AAU Boxing Committee.
