A standard-gauge railway is a railway with a track gauge of . The standard gauge is also called Stephenson gauge (after George Stephenson), International gauge, UIC gauge, uniform gauge, normal gauge and European gauge in Europe, and SGR in East Africa. It is the most widely used track gauge around the world, with approximately 55% of the lines in the world using it. All high-speed rail lines use standard gauge except those in Russia, Finland, and Uzbekistan. The distance between the inside edges of the rails is defined to be 1435 mm except in the United States and on some heritage British lines, where it is defined in U.S. customary/Imperial units as exactly "four feet eight and one half inches" which is equivalent to 1435.1mm. Trams In Belgrade
The Belgrade tram system is a 1000 mm gauge network that in 2011 had 10 routes running on of (at least mostly double) track in the city of Belgrade, Serbia. It is operated with around 200 trams, including ČKD Tatra KT4, CAF Urbos, and Duewag Be 4/6 trams. The first tram line was introduced on 14 October 1892. In the late 2000s, complete reconstruction of the system commenced. Lines There are (as of May 2022) 10 lines in operation every day until around 12:00 am. As of May 2022, line 3 doesn't function. Trams In Niš
The Niš tram system was a tram system in Niš, Serbia. It was in operation between November 16, 1930, to August 10, 1958. Origins The tram was built thanks to money from Germany, for war reparations from World War I. The sum of 21,274,928 dinars paid for the costs of installing rail, trams and the tram station. Along with this, two power plants were built and the electricity grid was expanded. The tram went from the train station to Niška Banja. During operations the system transported a total of approximately 7,658,000 passengers. Demise In 1956 the traffic director of the municipality Niš said that the trams will be gotten rid of. In 1958, fifteen trams were removed out of service and sold. Buses replaced trams in a ceremony on August 10. The Novi Sad tram system was a tram system in Novi Sad, Serbia. It was in operation between 30 September 1911 until some time in 1958. There are plans to build a new network with estimated completion by 2030. Origins and Demise As Novi Sad developed, the need for mass transit grew. In 1868 the first plans for transporting people in chariots was presented. As the time went on and the city grew in size, the idea of building a tram based public transport system began to take form. The Subotica tram system was a tram system in Subotica, Serbia. It was in operation from 7 September 1897 to 2 April 1974. The first tram line went from the Sombor gate to the present day NAP gas station in Mali Bajmok over Rudic street, follogin Korz to Lake Palić. One tram from the system remains to this day, at the corner of Rudić street. Origins The Subotica tram, put into operation in 1897, ran on electricity from the start.
