City Hall, Penang
The City Hall is the local government headquarters in the city of George Town in Penang, Malaysia. Built by the British, it now serves as the seat of the Penang Island City Council and was previously the seat of the George Town City Council. Originally completed in 1903 as the ''Municipal Offices'', the building was erected at a cost of $100,000 to relieve the demand for office space at the adjacent Town Hall. The name ''City Hall'' dates back to the grant of city status to George Town in 1957. Both the City Hall and the Town Hall are located at Esplanade Road, overlooking the historic parade ground (the ''Padang'') within the Esplanade. The Residency (Malay: ''Seri Mutiara'') is the official residence of Penang's head of state, the governor of Penang. The Suffolk House refers to two early residences built on the same site located some four miles west of George Town, Penang, Malaysia. Located on the banks of the ''Air Itam'' ("Black Water") River, the earliest of the two buildings is notable for having served as the residence of Francis Light, the founder of the first British settlement on Penang. The Old Protestant Cemetery ( ms, Tanah Perkuburan Protestan Lama), also known as Northam Road Cemetery, is a disused Protestant cemetery in George Town, Penang, Malaysia. After more than a century of neglect, it is now listed as a Class 1 Heritage Site and is maintained by the Penang Heritage Trust. The cemetery lies in a grove of frangipani trees along Northam Road (now Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah) near the historic core of George Town, only metres away from the beachfront and a short walk from the Eastern & Oriental Hotel. Penang High Court
The Penang High Court ( ms, Mahkamah Tinggi Pulau Pinang), founded in 1808, is the birthplace of Malaysia's judiciary system.
