List Of Tornadoes In The May 1995 Tornado Outbreak Sequence
The May 1995 tornado outbreak sequence produced 279 tornadoes between May 6 and May 19, 1995, across the Midwestern, Southern and Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. There were three particular outbreaks during that period: those of May 7 to May 9 across the southern Great Plains, May 13–14 across the Ohio and Mississippi Valleys and on May 18—the most intense outbreak—across the Tennessee Valley. Additional tornadoes touched down in the Southeast, the Middle Atlantic and the Central Plains during that period. A total of 13 people were killed during the entire outbreak sequence. Marysville, Texas
Marysville is an unincorporated community in northwestern Cooke County, Texas, United States. It lies approximately three miles from the Texas-Oklahoma border. History In the spring of 1859, California natives Richard Corn and his wife, Mary Fitch Corn, settled in the vicinity of Sivell's Bend just south of the Red River. After residing in the community for several years, Corn decided to move a few miles southwest along Fish Creek in the area that came to be known as Marysville in the winter of 1866-67. Corn soon discovered that the loose sandy soil wasn't adequate for farming, so he began erecting a large sawmill in the valley of South Fish Creek that spring. When D.H. Forestburg, Texas
Forestburg is an unincorporated community in Montague County, Texas, United States. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 50 in 2000. History Forestburg was first settled in the early 1850s. Austin Perryman, Wash Williams, and Bob Clark were the first cattle farmers to settle here. Because of nonstop Indian raids in the area, it remained underdeveloped until the 1870s. The community first went by the name of Horn Hill, but it was changed to Forest Hill due to a grove of live oak trees in the area. It rechanged its name to Forestburg when postal authorities found out that there was another Forest Hill in the state. A post office was established in 1876. The community then had 200 residents served by several businesses such as sawmills and cotton gins. The population grew to 372 in 1900 and had a telephone line connected. Bridgeport is a city in Wise County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,923 in 2020. In 2009, Bridgeport was named by the Texas Legislature as the Stagecoach Capital of Texas. History Bridgeport's history began in February 1860 when William H. Hunt was granted a charter from the West Fork Bridge Company to build a bridge across the West Fork of the Trinity River. Windthorst is a town in Archer County, Texas, Archer and Clay County, Texas, Clay counties in the U.S. state of Texas. Hansford County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 5,285. Its county seat is Spearman. The county was created in 1876 and organized in 1889. It is named for John M. Hansford, a Texas state congressman and judge. History Native Americans In 1873, English brothers James Hamilton Cator and Arthur J. L. (Bob) Cator were sent by their father, British naval officer Captain John Bertie Cator, to Kansas in search of financial opportunity. Spearman, Texas
Spearman is a city in and county seat of Hansford County, Texas, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 3,368. It is known for its collection of windmills from the J.B. Buchanan windmill collection. History Spearman was platted in May 1917 in anticipation of construction of the North Texas and Santa Fe Railway. A post office opened in 1917, and by that time, E. C. Hays had a store near the site. The city was named for Thomas E. Spearman, a vice president of the North Texas and Santa Fe Railway.
