College football (french: Football universitaire) refers to gridiron football played by teams of student athletes. It was through college football play that American football rules first gained popularity in the United States. Unlike most other sports in North America, no official minor league farm organizations exist in American or Canadian football. End (gridiron Football)
An end in American and Canadian football is a player who lines up at either end of the line of scrimmage, usually beside the tackles. Rules state that a legal offensive formation must always consist of seven players on the line of scrimmage and that the player on the end of the line constitutes an eligible receiver. Before the advent of two platoons, in which teams fielded distinct defensive and offensive units, players that lined up on the ends of the line on both offense and defense were referred to simply as "ends". The position was used in this sense until roughly the 1960s. On offense, an end who lines up close to the other linemen is known as a tight end and is the only lineman who aside from blocking can run or catch passes. Bobby Dillon
Bobby Dan Dillon (February 23, 1930 – August 22, 2019) was an American professional football player in the National Football League (NFL). He played as a safety and spent his entire eight-year career with the Green Bay Packers. Dillon was an All-American with the University of Texas Longhorns. Although he was a safety, he also returned kicks and played several games at halfback. He finished his college career with 13 interceptions on defense, one touchdown as a halfback, and multiple kick returns for touchdowns. He was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the 3rd round (28th pick) of the 1952 NFL draft. After multiple accidents during his childhood, Dillon lost one of his eyes and played his entire career with a glass eye. Phil Dawson
Philip Drury Dawson (born January 23, 1975) is a former American football placekicker. He played for the Cleveland Browns from 1999 to 2012 and holds their franchise record for most field goals made, passing Hall of Famer Lou Groza in 2010. He played college football at Texas. He also played for the San Francisco 49ers from 2013-2016, and the Arizona Cardinals in 2017 and 2018. Douglas Arlin Dawson (born December 27, 1961) is a former American college and professional football player who was an offensive lineman in the National Football League (NFL) for eleven seasons in the 1980s and 1990s. Dawson played college football for the University of Texas, and received All-American honors and was an Academic All-American as a senior. Leonard Davis (American Football)
Leonard Barnett Davis (born September 5, 1978) is an American former college and professional football player who was an offensive lineman for twelve seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the University of Texas, and was recognized as a consensus All-American. Davis was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals with the second pick overall of the 2001 NFL Draft, and also played professionally for the Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers of the NFL. Chal Newton Daniel, Jr. (August 31, 1921 – February 13, 1943) was an American football player. Daniel was born in El Paso, Texas, in 1921. He moved with his family to Longview, Texas, in 1932. He was a member of Longview High School's championship football team in 1937. He played college football for the Texas Longhorns football team from 1939 to 1941. He was selected by the International News Service, the '' Sporting News'', and the Central Press Association as a first-team guard on the 1941 All-America football team. Timothy C. Crowder (born June 30, 1985) is a former American football defensive end. He was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the second round of the 2007 NFL Draft. Raymond DeWayne Clayborn (born January 2, 1955 in Fort Worth, Texas) is an American former professional football player who was a cornerback for the New England Patriots (1977–1989) and Cleveland Browns (1990, 1991) of the National Football League (NFL). College career Before his NFL career, Clayborn attended Green B. Trimble Technical High School and played for the University of Texas at Austin as both a running back and defensive back. Center or Centre (C) is a position in gridiron football. The center is the innermost lineman of the offensive line on a football team's offense. The center is also the player who passes (or "snaps") the ball between his legs to the quarterback at the start of each play. Kwame Cavil is a former gridiron football wide receiver. College career Cavil played college football at the University of Texas at Austin from 1997 to 1999. In 1999, he set a school single-season record by recording 100 receptions. He was the first player ever to leave one of Mack Brown's Texas teams with college eligibility remaining. Cavil was suspended from the team prior to the bowl game in his junior year, for "violation of team rules." The nature of the violation was not specified by Brown, Cavil, or the university.
