Telugu cinema, also known as Tollywood, is the segment of Indian cinema dedicated to the production of motion pictures in the Telugu language, widely spoken in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Telugu cinema is based in Film Nagar, Hyderabad, India. The nickname ''Tollywood'' is a portmanteau of the words Telugu and Hollywood. By 2021, it has emerged as the largest film industry in India in terms of box-office. Since 1909, filmmaker Raghupathi Venkaiah Naidu was involved in producing short films and travelling to different regions in Asia to promote film work. Buddharaju Venkata Appala Haranath Raju (2 September 1936 – 1 November 1989), known mononymously as Haranath, was an Indian actor who worked in Telugu films. Early life career and death Haranath was born on 2 September 1936 in Raparthi near Pithapuram and Gollaprolu in East Godavari district. He had two younger brothers and a sister. His early schooling was in Madras till pre-university, and he did his B. A. degree in P R College, Kakinada. He was very active in cultural activities, particularly dramas, won many a drama competition. An encounter leads him into films. ''Constable Koothuru'' () is a 1963 Telugu-language film directed by Tapi Chanakya. It is a remake of the 1962 Tamil film ''Policekaran Magal'', itself based on a play with the same name. The film stars Jaggayya, Krishna Kumari, రాజశ్రీ Gummadi and Kanta Rao. This was J. Jayalalithaa's first appearance as a child star in Telugu cinema. Plot Dharmayya is an honest police constable who has two children: Gopi and Janaki. Gopi's friend Raghu is the spoilt son of a wealthy man named Venkatramayya. One day, Dharmayya raids a bar and catches Raghu gambling and arrests him, this leaves a bad opinion of Raghu on Dharmayya. In an attempt to change Raghu's lifestyle, Venkatramayya decides to marry off his niece Mallika to Raghu. But before the marriage, Raghu meets Janaki and they fall in love with each other. Adurthi Subba Rao (16 December 1912 – 1 October 1975) was an Indian film director, cinematographer, screenwriter, editor and producer known for his works predominantly in Telugu cinema. Rao is widely regarded as the intellectual fountain head of Indian drama films. He has garnered seven National Film Awards. Rao made his foray into cinema as Associate to Uday Shankar in the 1948 dance film Kalpana, which was showcased in the "Treasures from National Film Archive of India" at the 39th International Film Festival of India.
